Ok, I think there is a 90% chance now that I will be goin turbo, but I have a few questions for you all. What is the cheapest stage I kit? Im gana be pushing it in the money works, so every dollar counts. how reliable are they? I need my car to last, and I baby it all the time with regular matince stuff, so its in good condition with 65,000 on the clock. Also if I where to get a bost controler, could I run the turbo @ 0-1 bost for daily driving and crank it up to 5-6 to race? I really apreciate all your help, and to fofill my goal to beat my womans car. Later!

Cheapest kit would be the Star stage 1 kit (for price see Wyatt at www.turbogs.com). Umm maybe Shuan might have a good deal too. (shaun at www.newedgeracing.com). HRC is more expensive but its well researched!(contact Bill Hanh at wwww.turbosystem.com) They actually have technical assistance if you have any trouble.

you cant boost lower then 5psi. Check your compression and if its arite, then it will be very safe(but everybody knows murphys law). Make sure you use synthetic mobil 1 oil and change it every 3,000 miles. Get a boost, egt, air/fuel guage(turbo timer also).Use 92 otance gas or the highest kind possible =). you can adjust your boost from the wastegate on the star but I heard its better to get a manual boost controller(more easier). Oh yeah a Exhuast system is good too! anything from 2.5" and higher is a good size for turbo.


I've been boostn'n for about half a year now without any major probelms. My headgasket is leaking but I suspect it was before the turbo.

Star Stage 2

Putting a turbo on an engine that was never meant to see boost is always going to be risky. Plain and simple no matter how much you baby your car, "Shit happens!" If your not ready to take that chance or don't feel 100% confident, i would suggest to wait until you are sure, and its the right move for you. I'm not trying to scare you away from going turbo because i am turbo and love it, but I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought it and knew the risks. My car is also my only car so, I to also baby it, but I also know shit happens, if something does happen, well thats part of the game we play. Learn from it and move on. Just my .02....good luck in whatever you decide.

0-1 PSI won't do much, you might as well spend on something else and use nitrous for track days.

5 psi SHOULD be ok if you don't drive like ya stole it (doesn't saound like you do), but as stated before, you gotta be prepared for the worst :(

hmm 0-1psi. 0psi would be worst than stock considering the manifold and 1psi would feel like an intake or something. If you theoretically could find a wastegate spring thats set at 1psi it would be possible but why bother. If you want reliability you dont want the cheapest stage 1 (which looks like will be the NER stage 1 $1749). Reliability means an intercooler and BOV. EGT and A/f gauges (half the sh*t I still need or need to hook up). If you dont mind driving around with the kind of power you have now (which is what you'd have if you could run 0-1psi) you'd be better off with nitrous (especially if all you want is stage 1/ 5psi power). Babying it and turbo kits are oxymorons: boost requires an engine load. You might as well get the kit and leave it at 5psi cause you'll never see it babying it.
