52065, hesitating even with missing link Posted by MITSURACER, Jul-14-03 11:29 AM
okay i finally got my missing link and installed it yesterday. the car is still hesitating though. it happens right before teh car goes to boost its like right at 0 psi on my autometer gauge it will stutter and feel like its trying to push back then it will take off. am i running to rich. its hard to tell with the a/f gauge it just goes back and forth from lean to rich it never stays rich and it never stays lean. i thought the missing link would fix it but it hasnt helped at all. anyone got any suggestions. i read some other post in search that said it might be a coil pack and i might be misfiring. does that sound possible and where can i get a good coil pack if so. thanks for the help in advance

List what mods you have. It's really to pinpoint what's causing the hesitation. It could a number of things, i.e., fuel system too rich, too lean, kinked fuel line, ignition misfire (bad plugs, coil pack, plug cables).

basically all i have is what came with the star stage 2 kit and the missing link. i also added ngk bkr 7e 11's gapped to .035. besides that im pretty much stock. oh and i have an arospeed kevlar muffler since i was n/a. i know its too small of piping but i have to come up with some money for a 3" exhaust soon. i have the safc 2 ,550 injectors and a greddy profec b boost cntrl but i havent installed them yet. i guess ill do that and try to tune that way, then ill go from there.

I also had the same problem. When i first got my HRC stage 2, I was also hesitating. I bought the missing link, that didn't work. Then new plugs, gapped them at .35, and still didnt work. And I finally found out the problem, I wasn't getting enough fuel. That's what caused the fuel cut and hesitation.

Mitsuracer, are you saying that you have an S-AFC, but it's not installed yet? If you're running the 550's w/o any kind of fuel trimming device installed, then you are definitely running rich. Do you notice any black smoke blowing out your exhaust, or smell fuel while idling? If you do, that's also a good sign of a VERY rich fuel system.

What about fuel pump?? have you gotten a better fuel pump?? I had this same problem with my car but i wasn't turbo charged... I had nos running on it before the engine puked and I think my problem was i broke my head gasket and lost serious compression and was getting to much air... and my ecu was trying to componsate and it wouldn't even idle right... and i would have to have it WOT just to get the thing to start....
sounds like eaither your not getting enough fuel or your too lean.. if your too rich i wouldn't be all toooo worried about it.. be worried but if your running lean i would be paranoid as hell..

This is a problem on all 420A Eclipses turbo or not. It just tends to be more aggravated and obvious with a turbo. You have to work with your fuel tuning to try and dial it out as much as possible. If you study a few dyno charts you will notice it on all of them to varying degrees. The car will usually be very rich. Been told it has to do with our intake manifold design. Interesting theory.
