Headed up to bristol, TN thos morning for the NOPI show. all is fine and good, till about halfway there the car develops a miss. going down the interstate, there was intermittent stuttering, like the car was missing. pulled over, check the sparkplug wires. one seemed to be a little off the coil pack, so pushed it on real good. car starts up, idles fine. get back on the interstate, everything is ok for about 2 miles, then it starts again. limp into the show, and get a set of BKR7E-11 plugs from our shop, and put them in, hoping to sure the problem. car sits for 5-6 hours. get in it to go home, starts up fine, idles fine. drive the 4 miles to the interstate. get on the interstate, and 3 miles later its stuttering again BAD. so i get off the next exit, baaaaarely make it pulled off at a McDonalds, and the car dies. it will crank up for a few seconds, run like shit, then die. i ran the codes, and they were pretty confusing. ill run them down as best i can. i get a 21 first(upstreamO2) then, weirdly, after it flashes the "1" in 21. it starts the next code, but instead of blinking, the light stays on for about 5 seconds...goes off...then blinks 7 times. then i get a 24...and finally a 55. the upstream o2 sounds interesting, but i didnt think it would make my car run THAT bad, and my A/F never did anything crazy. i was thinking maybe the coi pack was taking a crap on me. any suggestions? the CEL staying on for about 5 seconds is a new one to me.

sounds like a shot coil pack. mine studdered and the cel flashed on and off. replace the coil and never had it again.

If the coil is bad, take a look at the coil's tips, to see if there's any discoloration. I had one go bad, and you could actually see some browning on it.

sounds like an ignition problem or a clogged cat, after highway miles it heats up and closes off exhaust flow causing the car to bog and stall, then after it cools you can start the car and drive for a while till it gets hot again and expands again

i'm having problems with mine and i think it is the ecu.

Check the coil and the wires, I used to have one wire that would pop off on road trips sometimes, Got new wires and havn't had an issue. Is the same plug wire loose each time?

Got a new coil pack. put it on, went to start the car...nothing. battery was dead as crap. now, a little back story here. about a month ago, i had a problem with my car running like crap and not wanting to idle. the battery was getting WAAAY overcharged, and i thought it was the alternator. put a new one on, and still had the same problem. it turned out to be the alternator wire was rubbing up against the EGR tube, and grounding out. fixed the wire, and no more problems. but i DIDNT replace the battery. why i dont know. guess i was lazy. so, today, after i tried to start it, i got out, and looked at the battery real close. their was some green junk oozing out of the side post, and battery acid was all in the damn battery tray. also, the positive terminal was charred black! i took the battery out, put in a new one. car runs/starts fine. i think when the battery took a shit, it just chain reactioned through the system. all seems to be well now. my electrical system hates me!!! :-)

Glad you found the problem. Since the battery's + terminal is charred black, I'm willing to bet it shorted out somehow. Good thing it didn't affect other parts of the electrical system. It could be worse.

Yep. definitely coulda been. least i have an extra coil pack to go along with my extra ECU now! :thumbsup
