I have my EGT probe about 3-4" after the turbo on the downpipe. I've read that if the probe is on the manifold the temp should be about 1400 and if its on the downpipe around 900. Since my temp probe is so close to the turbo, shouldn't I see higher EGT temps? If so, what sounds about right. Thanks

I think everyone here will agree it is best to put it on runner #4 and not worry about 'guessing' at about the right temperature drop.

Too late. My downpipe is already made and its where I said ^^. The guy who made it said it was better on the downpipe. I guess it varies who ever you ask. Anyway what do you guys think about a decent temp?

It's 200 degrees variance on the downpipe from the "better" position on the manifold. :+ It will also react slower on the dp.

if you ask a dum ass he will say dp. if you ask someone who knows about turbo engines etc it will be the manifold or close by or each runner (thats pimp).
but yah 200 sounds correct.

i have mine in the downpipe because i didnt want to fuck up my manifold.:nono 1000 normal driving 1200 high way and i dont let it get too close to 1400 max (boosted run).

90%+ or more like 95% turbo people including myself have it on the manifold with no problems! if you want it on "your" dp that's cool...

I had it in the downpipe and then put it into the manifold in the first outlet. I noticed exactly 200 degree temp change. I used to have about 1100 on the gauge going 75 on the interstate and now I have 1300. This is on a stage 1. I have a lot more peace of mind too knowing how far I can take it.

manifold is the best place to put it.... it doesn't mess up the manifold..... and i'm 4g63 running 20psi daily and 420aT

Ok so you have invested thousands of dollars on a car and a turbo kit. You can drill and tap the manifold for the probe with $10 or less and pay the exhaust guy to weld the hole shut (although you should be able to get him to do it for free if you bitch at him for putting it there)
OR You can GUESS at a temp reading and blow your motor and invest another 3-5 grand in a rebuild. If it were my I would move the probe, why be close when you can be right?
