5176, Joe P manual boost controller Posted by Stan2gnt, May-17-01 06:22 AM
Doesn't do me much good now but for $50 I got it anyway. Damn thing got here in no time. First I must say Joe P, Hallman, Busta ect are making a killing selling these things for $40-100. They are nothing but a $3 brass housing and a few $2 fittings, two 3cent balls and a 25cent spring (and the name brands probably spend $2 more on coloring and shapely housings). However cheap it is to make I cant do it so I pay. Installed it (2minutes) turned the adjustment WAY back and the damn thing was still set at 7psi (had I just left it where it was out the box I think I would have shot to 15psi) Turned it back another 1/4 turn and it was a steady 6psi (my wastegate always went to 6psi so I left it). Haven't driven it but to adjust it but it did hold steady boost and didn't slow response down any (dont know if it helped yet either. Was already starting to build boost pre 3000rpm). Also bought a heat sheild filter and denso plugs. I'm 3 steps away completing stage 2 (turbo timer, EGT gauge and of course intercooler piping).

i bought the same one but its been 2 weeks and nothing. They ahve a good reputation for working well. In the picture they look like nothing, maybe 5 bucks at a local HomeDepot. But then again Home Depot doesnt have boost controllers.

I have one as well. The only problem i've had with it is the set screw falling out, but i went to the HW store, spent a buck and got an exact sized thumb screw and a nut to lock it with. better setup, if you ask me, then you don't need the little allen wrench to adjust it, and you always know how much you've turned it.

I've seen a Home Depot Boost controller on this one guys 1G Talon TSi AWD. Don't know how to make it, maybe if you take a trip to some Turbo DSM pages and you can probably find out how to make one yourself.
