51664, Smoke Out Of Catch Can???? Posted by lonnie1977, Jul-07-03 02:11 PM
I just hooked up the passenger side port( I believe the pvc valve) to my catch can last weekend. This weekend I noticed more like a steam (instead of an oil like smoke) coming out the breather filter on the top. I did a compression test and got (Passenger side first) 215/215/210/211. And the car runs fine with about a table spoon of an oil like reside in the can after a week of driving( alot of hard driving also). Is this normal???

Yeah, coming from the PCV its normal. IMO, you should keep it hooked up at the valvecover, this way you can keep a negative pressure in the crank case. Its not really a big deal if you are NA, but if you have turbo, then i say def keep it at the valvecover. There really is no need to route the PCV to a catch can anyway..the valve cover is already vented thorugh the breather line..

yeah what you are seeing is un-spent fuel fumes.. I have the same set up I have both the pcv and the breather plugged in to the catch can because I broke 3 pcv valves while boosting.
