pulled my plugs to do a comp check....was burning oil...found out it was oil in the #4 plug well....anyways how do they look? ok or no good? also what is that rust colored stuff on the bottom of the porcelain? its only on #2-4...none on #1????

The plugs look fine. They will look lean especially if you were just idling. The only true way to do a plug reading is to be going at the desire speed and shut the car off then immediatly pull the plugs. Anyway they look normal that rust ring is just oil and shit that made its way through the plug and burnt off.

LOL...ive ALWAYS found that rust looking stuff on all of my plugs justin. i think its just normal. :P

BTW, im working sat. nights for a while, so i cant make it up to northwoods. x( :-( ill give you a call in the next few days and we can hang out for a while if you arent busy. :thumbsup

The rust colored stuff is just normal combustion deposits. YOur #4 plug looks like its burning oil. Oil should not be entering from the well either, since the plug is sealed into the head when tight. What was your compression in the #4? Could be leaky valve guide oil stem seals..Even if the oil was making its way into the cylinder from the plug well, it wouldn't be buring so much oil to notice it out the exaust..

the valve cover seal around the #4 plug wasn't seated properly so it was letting a substantail amount of oil in, coupled with the fact that the #4 plug wasn't tight....
