just got my from the shop, had custom stage 1 installed. i have the wastegate unhooked because its stuck, waiting on new one, anyway sometimes when my car is at idle it starts to smoke real bad from the tail pipe, only does it when its idleing. anyone know of this problem or have suggestions???

what color smoke? White would be coolant, blueish-black is oil

its white, coolant is not hooked up to the turbo

if it only dose it when you idle its probably a valve seal. Could be a HG too. If you boost with your wastegate unhooked you could easily pop your HG.

You can't build much boost with the wastegate unhooked. Most of the air escapes through the wastegate before it even enters the turbine.

I'm wondering how you found out that the wastegate was stuck. If you found out by getting a huge boost spike, then you may have popped your headgasket depending on what year car you have. If you have a 1995-1997 then that is more likely than if you have a 1998-1999. This is because in the later years, they started using the MLS gasket which IMO wont fail without major major abuse. If they knew it was stuck before installation, then it's either something else or just coincidence.

Does it blow white smoke at idle after driving for 20+ minutes? How is your coolant level?

it does it mainly at idle, but it did it while i was going down the road today. coolant is fine but its definately burning oil. i dont have a catch can on the valvecover breather, just a little air filter. could that be the problem, because blowby oil can get out of the crankcase.

found something,,, a bolt is missing on the exhaust side of the turbo, one that holds the exhaust housing on. oil is seeping through and bubbling around it. could that be the problem?? is oil supposed to be in that part of the turbo?

maybe you need to rebuild the turbo. it might not be sealing good, so oil is leaking from the cartridge on the turbine side

Yep, sounds like you may need a turbo rebuild. How is the lateral and axial shaft play?

i've been driving back and forth to work everyday, would the wastegate being open all the time have anything to do with it. if i take off the exhaust housing could i possibly seal it with something from autozone.
