5066, What's a good oil cooler? Posted by HadesOmega, May-15-01 08:58 AM
What's a good oil cooler for our cars and how easy is it to install? I'm sure this would help the turbo last much longer and stay cooler. I know the GSTs have one, I almost ripped a Denso Oil Cooler off of a TSi but it was damaged.

I think mine is a Perma-cool. Its a general use oil cooler. Oil to air, sandwich adapter. Had to get a shorter filter to keep from snagging it on speed bumps. I've got it mounted by the evap canister in the passengers side scoop. I think it was $80 from Pep-boys.

Yup, i have a perma-cooler too...just make sure u get one that's not too big...
The one I got was too big...so I ended up sandwiching it between the FMIC and radiator..

LAST EDITED ON 16-May-01 AT 02:02 PM (PST)What brand filter is shorter? I use a Castrol one that looks like everything else. Or do you have to get difference oil filter number/size?
I guess if it doesn't stick out as much as the RRE tie bar it's ok hehe.

Fortunately our engines uses the same kind of filter the permacooler's and most other cooler's sandwich adaptor takes.
PH16 or PH8. Our filter is actually a MUSTANG filter cut in half. Impressive, isn't it? :)

Hmm so is there a kit with a really small sandwich adapter?

I'm using a PL10193 from Purolator. Its a couple inches shorter than the regular filter. Its short enough to put my mind at ease about knocking the filter off if I hit something.

I've been meanign to check into the details of the kit but B&M makes an import oil cooler. I think it has a filter relocation kit as part of it. I want to do an oil cooler too, and one with a filter relo. If the B7M doesn't have a filter relo as an option or part of it, then Perma Cool does have one. I know I've seen it... somewhere.

oh another question... would it hurt a N/A motor's performance.. or is it in any way bad for it?? i don't think it is .. but just making sure...
