50531, Dyno Day Posted by thegame, Jun-14-03 02:54 PM
Well.... I went to a somewhat local car show today, and they had a dyno there. So I thought humm........ let see what the hrc stage 2 kit realy does. Note: Besides the 2.5" hi-flow cat, and 3" exhaust, its basically what came with the kit.
1st pull - 182.6 max power. 180.2 max torque 2nd pull - 185.9 max power. 180.3 max torque
Also.... my max air/fuel is 17.5 What does that mean? Good? Bad?

besides the stage 2, what mods do you have?

17.5 was running a little lean......

50558, RE: Dyno Day Posted by icedout, Jun-14-03 09:10 PM
should be around mid 14's on af meter

with that af reading, doesnt seem like its tuned, what fuel mods do you have? just the ones that came with the kit?

How much boost r u running?
17.5:1 is very very lean...was it at 17.5 thru-out the pull, or just at one point?

his sig says hes running 7psi. i thought you could run around 9-10 with stage 2 + one or two more psi w/ FMIC..?

"Maybe" on a HRC stage 2 you could get away with 9-10psi on a stock motor for a little. not on a STAR kit, at least i wouldnt advise it. bigger turbo= more fuel needed for the same boost pressure. surely their A/F reading machine was messed...a 17.5:1 mixture is EXTREMELY lean, i would figure it would have popped.

I doubt it was 17.5:1 for the entire run. 20:1 is basically free air.
Almost ever A/F curve i've seen fr a turbo car starts out very lean before going to open loop at WOT. At that point, the A/F drops down to the 12:1 to 10:1 range.
Post the graph.

Yeah, I agree with Dino. I hope it's not 17.5:1 throughout the entire pull, because that is LEAN. That reading is probably at the transition into boost. The actual a/f in WOT should probably be little better than the 17.5:1 ratio, otherwise, the WOT fuel pressure needs to be increased.

Heh.... my scanner isnt hooked up but I tried taking some pics of them. Wow. Ok. Quality sucks. If anyone wants them, just e-mail me or something.

well i dynoed at 192.5 untuned at the same psi level you did. with a stock cat and 2.5" cat back. umm that a/f chart does not semm to show 17.5 or am I just crossed eyed? but it looks like it's right where it should be at wot. maybe a little lean when it starts to spool, some reaction lag from the fpr maybe?

yeah, your A/F looks pretty good. you could even lean it out a little. perfection = starting out at 13:1, then slowly going down to about 11.5-12:1 by redline.
i got my car dyno'ed this weekend too. i got about 220 WHP and 240 torque at 12-14 psi with a ghetto exhaust. i'll have exact numbers once the dyno guy e-mails me my printouts. i was very suprized with my torque results. however, i was right with my estimate of top end power - it SUCKS. after about 4500 rpm's, everything just dropps off. definately because of my crappy exhust (dented HRC/stock downpipe, stock cat, stock cat-axle piping, and a crappy axle-back flowmaster muffler)
after my 3rd run, i started to get BAD heat soak with my 1g SMIC. i waited on the dyno for about 10 minutes for my 4th run, and it heated up again almost instantally. i waited another 5 minutes for it to cool down to a resonable tempature (reasonable meaning i can hold my hand on it without getting burned... lol) and my EGT's still shot up to 1600 rather quickly. the coolant tempatures went up after the 5th run too, so i called it quits.
discuss.

bump... the guy finally e-mailed me my dyno runs. if anyone wants to host my screen shots of my best run (hp&torque vs. rpm / air:fuel vs. rpm) feel free to PM me and whatnot. i can e-mail or AIM it to you.

Hey thats great man! Personally glad to hear of somone who dynoed their stage 2. I ran my stage 2 for 3 1/2 years and never got it tuned nor dynoed and caught a LOT of crap from my brothers.
Gonna have my 2.2L Stroker etc etc blah blah dynoed at Extreme Motorsports this next Thurs. 26th and am curious to see what happens.
Keep us updated on your future progress.

180 doesn't sound bad that's 180 to the wheels so that something like 190 or 200 to the crank. I got 140 bwahaha but that with a blown exhuast manifold engine and dying engine.
