i got some Je piston/rings 881 compression i was wondering if Coating them is worth it overall? im not sure of the price but i will call around and ask. Coating the Pistons, is it like you can run a 'leaner' mixture for a while, forever or ? does it wear off?
any info would be nice.

There are a few different coatings available. I recommend them all. There is a moly coating that gets put on the skirts. This reduces friction between the pistons and the cylinder walls. There is also a ceramic coating available for the piston tops. This keeps the heat in the cylinder, and aids with adiabatic expansion, which is especially helpful with a turbo motor. The rest of the combustion chamber can get the same treatment, as well, by the way. I also recommend a moly coating on all of the main and rod bearings, as well as the main and rod journals. This will ensure a low friction surface that is less susceptable to spun bearings. The manifolds can also be ceramic coated to keep the heat where it should be. I recommend all of these coatings, as they have proven their worth on many a race motor.

i would love to coat everything, but money is a problem. i might have extra money to cc/thermal barrier on the piston face and moly coat the skirts, but if i do this alone is it a must to do something else? depending how much it cost to moly coat the main/rod bearings and journals i might do that as well. would what i just said, be the top things to prevent motor damage out of them all?

i can have your pistons ceramic coated on top moly coated side skirts moly and coated wrist pin for 125$

bearing are 40$ a set (Rod and Main)

also anything else u want oil shedding coatings and such...

( I myself do not coat them but a local shop does they have done 3 sets of pistons and such now they are looking beautiful...)

There is a great article in turbo mag. about coating... Everyone should pick it up or read it if you get a chance.

No, it's not nessicary to coat everything...just like it's not nessicary to coat ANYthing. Each surface treatment serves a particlar purpose and can be done individually.

Thanx for the coating

My Engine shop and I highly recommend the piston top coating. I have heard that the skirt coatings however may flake off and contaminate your oil.

I'll let you guys know how my oil looks. I guess I won't really know if the stuff stuck or not cause of the break in lube. Eh, If my motor survives I'll recommend the side coats as well.

hey moto, i would get it done by you but my crap is with my builder already, plus i dont want to deal with the shipping issue etc. but your prices are pretty good. ill try to ask my builder how much his machine shop or whatever charges for stuff like that.
