49794, Sad/Happy Day about rebuilding etc

well my engine is shot. yesterday i sorta raced with a g35 and after my car was idling 'odd. well today i went out and it still felt 'odd' so i turned around 5mins from my house, and my cel started to blink, i knew i was in for it. and it felt/sound like it was missing. so when i got home pop the dip stick and i saw white puffs of smoke coming out. did a compression check and 1=200, 2= 81 x( , 3=200, 4= 210. i was sad because i dont have my spare engine built yet, but happy i can move onto 15-20psi now. reason i posted it here is because i might have to drive it to my friends place since he will pull/install my new motor when its assembled etc and thats 20-30mins away, and my car can still drive up to 35mph just feels 'odd'. and i was wondering if with 81psi of compression in #2 it will not like just die on me or so? i really dont want to tow it..
what do you guys think?

Should make it. I kicked a rod on my frist car i had (86 cutless ceria 4banger) Rod went out the front of the motor drove about 5 miles at about 25 to the floor. Couldn't see a thing behind me and then got in the drive way turned it off. and went to start it turned over the then locked up. i assume sometihng wedged between the crank and the block. But one piston down won't hurt unless the piston is broke. I'm sure you could bend a valve if some of your piston is floating around in your motor. good luck

hmm sound like exactly what happened to me when mine blew. Drove it around for a day then noticed it started idling funny. Mine didn't get a CEL though. and my compressoin was like 150 30 130 150 haha way lower than yours. I bet I could have driven it for a while without boosting I did drive it for like 2 weeks after it blew a ring land no damage to the block all. Just really tiny cracks on the ring lands.

that sux you had really good compression then one just suddenly cracked whatta bitch :( at least I knew my days were numbers haha yours just came out and bit you on the ass.

good luck its going to be an experience like none other :P

:( I'm scared to drive my car hard now. I still have stock internals. How long would I last with this b4 it goes BOOM?!

maybe i should do a compression test. when doing a compression test, when the compression gauge is screwed into the socket, do i turn on my car and rev the engine?

to do a compression check, take out all 4 plugs, then you need to unhook the ignition and fuel relays, which are located to the right of the washer fluid resevoir, behind the battery....then just screw the tester in and crank the engine 10-15 seconds...

on a side note, after racing a new civic Si(and trashing him) my car was idling funny...i figured i had already cracked a ring land....did a compression check and got 200, 200, 205, 205.....freakin compression was better than it was last time i checked it...still haven't figured out why it idled funny....

I put over ~1K miles on my motor after i lost a cylinder

it should make it just fine.

thats the exact same way that my motor went. funny idle, then blinking CEL. i drove for a while after that tho

Yep gaurenteed cracked ring land! I drove my car for a bit when i did that, and it was ok, but BE GENTLE on it, and def NO boost. Cylinder pressure will keep the cracked ring land pieces in place, and shouldn't do any damage. You prob cracked the top ring land, and the second one is still in tact, but that one will prob crack too after a bit of driving..just drive it sparingly.. I'm surprised your motor lasted this long at 12 psi :) Mine went at 11-11.5 psi

you guys drove your stock internals with 11-12 PSI? that's crazy!:o
hey, im confused! what you mean by crank the motor? sorry for the noobie question. x( motor turn on or no?

the motor wont turn on if you have all the spark plugs out. you just turn the key like you are gonna start the car but since you have no plugs in you get no spark. the engine should not start for a compression test.

just drop all my engine/head/block and all parts to my mechanic who will bring everything to the machine shop and he will assemble it all. its going to take some time for the turn around since he is rebuilding a 4g63 motor and working another 420a. im expecting around 1-2months turn around till im up and running. :-( whats the best idea for me so my tires wont get mess up since my car will be sitting in the same exact spot for a long time? rotate it often? or put it on jack stands for 2 months?

I drove my car for about 100 miles after cracking 3 different piston ring lands at 13 psi (ask XtremeRS hehe). I had one good piston left after I rebuilt the 1st time that XtremeRS wound up using in his car for a few months lol. It makes me laugh that the rings hold up fine even after the lands crack on the stock cast pistons... even when both lands are totally busted, the rings hold up. Don't ask me how because I am clueless. I wish the pistons were that strong though.

how much boost were you guys running for you to blow up the engine?

Bring a few quarts of oil with you. You will probably get some blow by and go through a bunch of oil. I went through 5 quarts in 75 miles getting my car home. When your oil light comes on, just put in some oil and then if it comes on again, do it again until you get there.

I blew mine at 12psi also. I even had a bunch of C16 race gas when it happened. I am sure over time the cast ring lands cannot take the heat and get brittle. I am convinced that if I would have never boosted over 9 psi with my 30LB injectors, I could have drove it forever. At least that is my theory. Now mine is a summer long project.

lol. i don't even know why y'all boosted it up to more than what it suppose to hold. you getting me all worried about blowing up my engine and im running 7 daily and 9 racing, and there y'all are running 12's! that's crazy!!!

yep, that's the 2gnt (or any other car modders) fate. more speed then what you have already got from a mod. then after 250 hp, you want 300. then after that 400... its never ending until you run out of money.

well i did 6psi for 1 week and i got bored of it, so i up it to 9psi and that was fine, but after 6,000miles about i got bored, so i decided to get #30 injectors and tune with my afc to get any more power that i could get for 12psi. all was well tune just 'about' right. egt was fine, a/f was fine timing was fine even with my 8-injector setup. i guess 12psi for 1,000 miles about was not so good for my piston/ring. oh well... ill be up and running in a while and run 15-20psi leaning more to 20psi }(
