49756, What the hell is up with my timing???????

Not sure if this should be in turbo, performanc/engine, or advanced, but since it stems from turbo related stuff, i'll start here.

Normal driving, my car sees upwards of (sit down for this) 30-40deg timing advance. i am running 93 octane. What gives with this and what should i do to correct it before BOOM!!!!!

Not sure if this is relevant, but at least in my 1G talon, I get the same numbers during regular, partial throttle driving. I dont think you would have a problem unless you were seeing those numbers under boost at WOT. Someone more familiar with 2gNT timing please chime in on this.

Those timing numbers are perfectly fine for normal driving. If your timing is that high during full boost, then you have a problem. At WOT and 17 psi of boost, I get about 19 deg of advance and honestly, I could add a few more degrees safely. If you are running around 8 lbs of boost, more advance will yield more performance, but to be on the safe side, I would make sure it stays under 22 degrees at WOT if you have stock compression pistons. Also, keep a good eye on what your advance looks like under partial throttle boost. That is where most people run into trouble with excessive ignition advance.

at cruise and low throttle, low load conditions, upwards of 40* of timing advance is normal. The ECU does this for fuel economy.

You can watch the correlation between load and timing advance by graphing them both in your datalogger. The lower the calculated load %, the higher the timing advance. Stand on the throttle, the load% comes up, and timing advance falls down to "sane" levels and slowly climbs with engine RPM. The max timing advance at WOT is what you should be most concerned with.

This is why the AFC can cause timing advance - the calculated load% is in large part based of MAP sensor output. Monkey with the MAP sensor, and you throw off the calculated load value.

Make sense?

okay, i think im good to go. reviewed some WOT runs and timing is around 17 deg in the high rpm's. Lode is inversely proportionaly to spark advance as well (thanks dino). So, timing is good, and STFT's are down to respectable range now.

one more thing- should i be worried that my idle FP is around 16-17psi?
Thanks guys

I forgot, would using corbins FTSAFC mod (fool the SAFC)be usefull for any of my semi-problems?

When i datalogg my car, as SOON as i went into boost, like at 0 psi, my timing went down to 17-19 degrees advance, as it should, since the Map sensor is seeing its max voltage. Pay attn to what the timing is under boost, and WOT boost, as thats whats important.
