49546, completing custom turbo kit. have some specific questions Posted by rfpunch, May-27-03 02:48 AM
well i decided to purchase optimuspetersen's turbo parts and hopefully i can finish up the kit. here are my questions
fuel system: i am wanting to get away with running just an in-tank walboro alone because i hated my hrc inline with a passion. is the in-tank enough for 8-9 psi? i will be installing 30lb injectors as well, or shortly after so i will be able to lower the fuel pressure then. and if i go with an in-tank, do i just have to get some fittings to eliminate the stock FPR since im going to run a s-fmu?
downpipe: i will be using a T3 turbo. im assuming i can get a DP made at an exhaust shop, any better alternatives? any way to get ahold of a STAR DP?
intercooler piping: mandrel bends and couplers maybe? or should i sell the spearco FMIC im getting and purchase the HRC FMIC and piping?
thats about all i can think of for now. thanks in advance

fuel system: i am wanting to get away with running just an in-tank walboro alone because i hated my hrc inline with a passion. is the in-tank enough for 8-9 psi? yes, shouldn't have any problems. make sure its the 255 lpm pump.

You can just remove the stock FPR and use a copper crush washer, like the ones on the banjo bolts of brake lines, and a bolt 12mm (I THINK!, cant remember off the top of my head, just use old FPR to get correct bolt) to plug the FPR hole. you will also need to run a return line from your SFMU to the tank.
downpipe: i will be using a T3 turbo. im assuming i can get a DP made at an exhaust shop, any better alternatives?
Yea, make one yourself! but if ya cant do that, then no. You may wanna think about buying some mandrel bent pipe from JCWhitney (if exhaust shop dosent do mandrel bends) and letting the exhaust shop work with that rather than doing the press bent stuff.
any way to get ahold of a STAR DP?
this, i dont know.
intercooler piping: mandrel bends and couplers maybe? or should i sell the spearco FMIC im getting and purchase the HRC FMIC and piping?
i have a side mount. not sure about which flows better/costs more, but i beleive they are similar enough to not really make all that much difference. you will need to have the piping for the front mount. simple mandrel bends and couplers wont get the job done, if i understood your question right.
hope this hlpes get ya started. tim

Since this is your second time around, you should have a good idea of how everything goes together. Just be REALLY careful this time. Definitely keep an eye on the EGT's. You know I'll always be available by e-mail or phone if you need some help while putting this together.

thanks for the replies, tim and corbin. im gonna try to get with ryan (ryan95_i4) because i think that the intercooler im getting is his old one, and he made his own piping for it. and the first thing im going to do is get the car dyno tuned. i think that small ratio disk in the FPR is what messed me up last time. i could never find the disks until i sold the kit!
