49460, can a gst exhuast handle a hrc stage II
Posted by Vinh766, May-25-03 12:25 PM
i am planning on getting the HRC II, but i want the stock look, and i was wondering if the gst exhuast was high flow enough for the turbo. if not, can someone tell me what looks fairly subtle and stock(ish) that would be good also? thank you

hey the rs*r i got with my cousin is sorta stock. comes with a cool paper too. or you can do a custom setup like a pacecrap exhaust and just cut and weld on a new stock tip?
check it out
the muffler is not all that great bhttp://www.howellautomotive.com/Howell/Store/catalog/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=142_38_86&products_id=329ut it should work for a year or so.

and michael, how does it sound? does it have good flow? and how did you get ur hands on it? did you get just the muffler? or the whole system. i would want to get the muffler only.

its the whole catback. it sounds nice overall. worth every penny. i dont think rsr sells just the muffler, even if they did if you want a real rsr buy the whole catback.
cool

what do you guys think of the magnaflow exhausts? i was trying for the stockish look, w/ the not so big tip and all so i wanted to get the dual, but still kinda deep, do you guys think this one could handle a hrc stage II? and can you guys tell me what you think of this one? or does anyone have this one? or a magna flow exhaust?

i think big dual tip mufflers look like crap on eclipses because of the size of the cutout. i personally love the way that the n1 catback angles out. u can get away with a big tip on an eclipse, because of the cutout. and as for a stage 2. u can run a complete stock exhaust and be just fine. any additions to the exhaust will definitely help tho.

i was going to get a magnaflow. but overall i found the rsr for a great price. so i went that way instead.

true, you can run a stock exhaust setup, BUT YOU WONT BE FINE. with a turbo you dont want any restriction. think about it. if i was not in ca i would run without a cat or from the cat only etc.. you get the idea.

thanks guys, but what i don't think you understood was that i wanted to go for the stock look, so i want as small as possible even though looks dinky, but w/o any restriction. so what about this one, do you think it will have any restricition? im gonna do a full 2.5" or 3" catback of cousre. the tips are 3 inches. so im guess the outlet is 3" each. so what do you think? too much restriction? or good to go?

i beg to differ:) my car ran good even with stock exhaust after i got my kit, but of course ran better after i got a cat back. its not gonna blow up or anything if you have stock exhaust is what im trying to say

it wont blow up right away, but if you run 9psi with a stock exhaust it will die sooner. you think your car ran good, but from within it was not so happy. what do most turbo people do 1st? buy a better flowing exhaust. well atleast the smart people do.

I have my stage II set up with a stock GST exhuast and a resonator (no CAT) right now and it seems to be running pretty good. Though, like was said above, I plan to an exhuast in the next month or 2. If you really want a stock look why don't you have some custom piping made up at a muffler shop and take the baffles out of a gst muffler and run it that way. Won't be the greatest flow possible, but it should give you the look you want.
