I had my N1 installed yesterday and he put the flex section after my star DP and right where the cat was and put the cat in behind it. My question is will it serve the same purpose there that it would if he acctually cut the DP and welded it in there? I assume that as long as the DP can flex differently than the exhaust system as a whole it should be fine right?

it should work but the optimal area is in the downpipe

My flex is installed right next to the oil pan. I did have to heat the downpipe to get it away from the pan before installation. It was slightly touching anyway, so I positioned it for the flex to fit. The closer you can install the flex after the downpipe transitions from going down to towards the back of the car the better. This is where it will do the most good.

Problem is that you have to reposition the star downpipe because it is extremely close to the oil pan to begin with. I cannot believe this has not been fixed by now. This was a shitty design, but at least it is a 2.5 inch downpipe.

Hey kirby as long as the flex section is somewhere in the down pipe you should be fine. Make sure the down pipe isnt too close to the pan. There are only 2 puposes for the flex, one is to ease install/removal of the pipe. The other is to alow the pipe to flex with the motor. So solid motor mounts front and rear will help also. Personally I wouldnt have put the cat back on. But due to emmisions (hahaha) you probably kept it. You can get a high flow cat for like 100. late mike

So it sounds like my placement is not ideal, but it will at least help right? Yeah Mike I had to put the cat back in, but it is a 3" high flow cat. And I did do the motor mount inserts as well, so hopefully the motor won't roll as much. Basicly he welded the cat to the flex section, then welded the flange (to mount to the DP) on the other side of the flex section, and it bolts to the DP just like the Cat would normally. Then he welded the other cide of the cat onto the piping. So it goes like this. Star DP----flex/cat----piping---muffler. So did he put it in a place that makes it usless to have on there?

As long as the flex is close to the engine, it will only help. The positioning may not be ideal, but it will work. What mile mark are you at on the break-in?

yep I had to have the end section of my star DP redone so it'd fit that mosnter 3" RRE flex section. My DP used to touch my oil pan in one place but the muff dude fixed it by heating and bending it. now its touching the bottom of the pan, damn downpipe if it just hung a little lower X(





I think it not a bad deal though I paid 50 for the flex from RRE and 50 bux for the muff guy to install it and reroute the piping with 3" piping also, so I got more 3 inch in my exhuast now :). That dump tube pisses me off, I can't put a flex on that so it kinda makes it unflexible now. If it cracks then the hell with it haha route it to the ground and patch up the hole open dump tube again :)
