49258, probs with a/f gauge
Posted by whodatt1, May-21-03 09:11 AM
guys, i have the a/f gauge that corbin made, well it was working fine until I changed my injectors and fuel system. now when the car turns on it reads .1 something and slowly rises to about .8 where it then starts to jump around but never above .85 or so. so it is reading really lean, but I konw the car is runing rich. even when black smoke was coming out the back with raw fuel (while tuning for idle) the gauge still read lean.
i checked the groun on it and it was well conected. my question is is the gauge broken? any other tests I can make? or could it be the o2 sensor is busted?

thanks

It is posible if you are running super rich that you smoked the O2 sensor. Anybody with a datalogger or something you could plug into and compare?

that's the prob. no datalogger around here... You my man! up for a drive to good ol' Madison? hehe
I did get a system rich cel. so I'm guessing the o2 sensor is working right cus it sees all that fuel no?

Yeah if the ECU sees rich and the gauge is reading lean, I'b be more likely to believe there's a problem with the gauge...

And I need an adapter for serial to USB since our laptop doesn't have a serial port, and I refuse to pay $40 plus tax local for something I can get for under $20 plus shipping online. So it'll be a few before I can even use my datalogger. Buy a USB A to R232 Serial Male adapter, and drive down for Brian's engine pulling festival and we'll datalog you :P

I wouldn't blame the gauge or anything until:

You drive the car at WOT and get A/F #'s that conflict with how the car is running. In other words, don't pay much attention to A/F #'s while the car is idling. The numbers are only really important while you are in open loop (WOT).

Hmm... I just assumed it was having similar WOT throttle max readings... what readings are you getting for WOT?
