last weekend, i got bored and tried to hunt down my misfiring problems. my issue used to be that whenever i'd go much higher than 8-10 psi of boost i'd get a sort of what felt like a mild fuel cut. so i took out my denso iridium's and noticed that they were gapped very drunkally. some were very close, some were stretched way out. no 2 had the same gap. i don't have a gap tool, so i just evened them out to whatever the closest one was. wow! what a difference! my car felt like brand new again!

so, i figured it might still be time for new plugs. i've had the denso's for over a year. i went to autozone and looked for the NGK's that everyone says are good, but of course they didn't have them in stock so i just got regular bosch platinum's. i got a gapping thingy too. they came gapped to about 40 mills, but i hear that 50 mills is good for our cars. i still get mild misfiring under higher boost, and i'm trying to get rid of it.

so, i'll cut to the chase. for all of you stage III+ guys, what spark plugs are you using? how much are they gapped?

Well, first I don't think it's a good idea to use platinum plugs with a turbo application. It has to do with the resistance or something that makes them foul easier. Definitey keep looking for some NGK's. I think you can order them from RRE.

I run 15psi and gap my plugs to .030

find the NGK's and gap them between .32 and .35.

yeah, get the ngk bkre6's and i have them gapped to .028

took car of alot of my missfiring also! :thumbsup

No you want the 7e plug and gap it around .030 summit has them and advance can order them for tomorrow.

hey thanks guys for the post. i re-gapped the platinum plugs that i'm using until i can get the NGK's to .030 ish, and it helped a LOT. i can run 12 psi now without misfiring. my crooked 1G SMIC gets pretty heat soaked now. i should really make a baffel for it.

shit, i just ordered a set of the 6e's. whatever, close enough. are the 7e's really that different? are they 1 range colder or something?

Yes the 7e's are one range colder. I don't know that it will hurt you, but watch them.

Most of the DSM owners I know run the 6E's for daily driving. The 7E's are one range colder so you can run higher boost, but they also foul faster because the spark isn't as hot. My friends and I usually only use the 7E's at the track.
