48890, I win the DUMBASS award for the month Posted by Justin99RS, May-16-03 06:13 AM
well last night at 1130, i'm finishing up..putting the oilpan and donpipe on....i get all done, dump the oil in, crank the car and then watch as 4.5 quarts of synthetic oil dump out of the hole where the oil filter is supposed to be...i got too damn excited about driving it that i overlooked that one tiny detail....we got the car shutoff( i think, and HOPE) before ay damage was done.........

I don't know brother, I have done 2 oil changes this month, and both times I dumped the whole 5th QT into the motor. So then I had to break out the sockets again and drain a QT out. The big diff. between us is I did it twice.....lol

The difference between a wise man and a fool is, a fool's mistakes never teach him anything.
I hate doing stupid stuff and forgetting the stuff you never should.

Unless you had the car sitting for a really long time with no oil pan on it (so it really dried out) I doubt you did any damage. Just put a filter on next time!

You'd know it if you did any damage.
As far as the fifth quart.. i always fill up with 5. Like an extra half quart is going to hurt anything.

hey justin...that was my concern as well. i think you might have to buy an extender of sorts to get it far enough out to make clearence for the oil line. thats the only fix i can think of.
im guessing you got it started up this evening...how did things go (besids the oil sender stuff)?

LOL check out my story... my buddy wanted to change his carrola's oil, with my tools, i said yeah its cool. so while he changed to oil in front of my drive way i changed my Volvo's oil too. so when we both got done i wanted to gas up the Volvo for the week so i asked him to move his car. he starts its and it makes this scratchig sound, i was like what the fuck, so i checked the oil that he drained and what do i see in the pan ATF fluid! i laughed my head off. later
