48753, Turbo kit or custom setup? Posted by MajinVejitaXV, May-14-03 09:19 AM
I'm getting a 2.4L (maybe stroked to 2.6L) rebuilt by ARD (Wiseco pistons, Eagle rods, Ceramic coatings on the piston tops & skirts, balancing the rotating assembly to 11k rpm, rings, bearings, gaskets, hot tanking the block, & assembled), and want to have it turbocharged when it's all said and done.
I've heard lots of arguements how how to turbo our engine though, some people going for HRC or Star kits, and some going completely custom. I've been looking at the HRC Stage III, but what do you guys recommend? I'm going for a daily driver that can drop a few jaws on the weekend (especially when they see it's a 4 banger ;)).

P.S. - The above is what ARD offered for the rebuild when they e-mailed me, anyone have anything they add to that/replace for the rebuild?

If youre getting a built block, theres no need for a Stage 3. I think all a stage 3 is a stage 2 with a rebuild kit. Personally, id suggest running a custom kit because you can choose what ever you want to fit your needs.

Personally, I like the HAHN kit because of the company that backs the kit. You have questions, they have answers. I think building your own kit is a real pain in the ass.

I've been trying to catch you on AIM, but I'm not on much and it seems you're not either. Here's the setup ARD quoted me, you (and anyone else) feel free to give me your opinion, and what you would change/add. BTW, in addition to this, I'll be getting head work done too, so if you wanna recommend what I should have done and what parts to use, that would kick ass :thumbsup
2.4 short block $250 Custom Wiseco pistons $550 (includes rings) Eagle rods $375 Machine work $650 (includes bore, hone, coating pistons, bearings, balancing to 11k rpm, & assembly) ARP studs $160 (head and main studs) Gasket set $60 (short block only) Gasket set $140 (head set only) Oil pan $115 Timing belt kit $120 (includes belt & both idler pulleys) Oil pump $110 Water pump $65
That's all I have so far, direct from the e-mail I was sent. Suggestions?
Thanks, Corey

How do we get around the issue that our motors dont have oil squirters? Is that a real problem, or can they be custom made?
