4867, The "Fool the S-AFC" VFAQ...finally Posted by Corbin, May-10-01 06:39 PM
I finally broke down and made the VFAQ for the S-AFC boost sensor mod. Its a really long VFAQ, but pretty complete. I included some basic MFI and injector info too. It 3:30 now and I spent the last 7 hrs making it. I am not finished tuning my own car, but I've proven that the mod works. I think its a valid mod, but won't replace the rising rate regulator. Just a supplement with alot of flexibility. RS_Guy, I linked to your AFC site so I wouldn't duplicate your efforts...I hope you don't mind. Lemme know if anything is unclear. Leon and Shaun should be glad I finally got it together. Its at

LAST EDITED ON 12-May-01 AT 04:19 AM (PST)You have a spelling mistake - NOVICE is spelt "E X P E R T" :-)
I liked that! (here's an *improvised* quote)... "yeah, I'm a novice, so I pulled out a trusty Motorola MPX 4250AP slapped it in a box and hey! It worked!" :-)
Corbin, I have no problem that you linked to my site! In fact I really appreciate it that you find my SAFC tuning worth mentioning!
My site is meant to make life easier for all of us, so please Link Away if you find anything useful. This applies to everyone.
I know that I am missing lots of you guys' website links, but I AM working on that right now. I will have a special section dedicated for fellow DSMers!
I also have a few more write-ups to do, but as you know, even the short ones take *forever*...

I too will modify my homepage to add mods and upgrades processes in the future. The reason I haven't done that is because I'm very new to car tuning I don't know very much, that's why I don't make too many posts here.
On the other hand, you guys have been a source of inspiration and technical assistance when it comes to the 420A. I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who's, basically, the core members of this site. Hopefully, in the future, I'll have something useful to share with everyone as I continue to learn and experiment with my own car.

Great job!
Just a question: What did you set your "LOW THROTTLE POSITION" to on the SAFC? 0 psi or full idle vacuum?

Right now, I am running 25 psi fuel at full vacuum. 38 psi fuel at 0 boost. Around 53 psi fuel at 6 boost (2.5:1 disk). I have my low throttle point set a little below 0 boost. Hi throttle point is about 7 psi boost. Its working great right now (closed loop). My WOT settings are still too rich, but useable. At WOT, I'm only seeing 1400F (too rich) but at least its not bogging. I'm leaning out my high throttle settings 1% at a time. I rarely get a chance to go WOT for long, so progress is slow. I bought a laptop and ordered my datalogger...I'll be tuning smart soon. I got a lightning quick P75 with 8mb ram, quit laughing...its enough to run the software.

Where'd you get that Corbin...I've actually been looking for a cheap laptop myself. Where'd you find yours?

E-bay of course. I got it for $91 today actually. Its a real basic system, but it should run the datalogger just fine. Better systems (P166 and above) were selling for over $200. I just couldn't bare to part with that much cash...especially when the software is supposed to be able to run on a 386.
