48643, stock clutch life?
Posted by ner947, May-13-03 04:45 AM
today while leaving dunkin donuts this morning, i decided to go from 2nd gear so i could hold my iced coffee and not have to deal with shifting for a few more seconds. i brought it to 10 psi soon after the clutch caught because i had to boost out of a sketchey intersection, and something broke loose. assuming it was my tires, i shifted to 3rd and the RPM's kept going up even know the tires were definately not spinning. (ha... maybe with 15-18 psi and a good clutch i can spin my tires in 3rd gear) i finally realized that it was definately my clutch. i was kind of upset, my stock clutch has lasted a LOT longer than i would have possibly imagined. i bought the car with 109k miles on it, and it's been turbocharged at 10 psi for about 9000 miles, with 5-6 psi for about 3000 miles before that. as of now i have 138k miles on the stock clutch. no idea when it was last replaced, i'm guessing it was changed around 80k miles because there's no way it's been able to grab like brand new since august of 1996 (build date). so how much longer do you guys think i have on this clutch before it's completely cooked? i was thinking on getting a Spec stage 3 with the fidanza flywheel, but one of the leet stage IV guys just posted about having issues with it...?

holy crap you went 138k on your stock clutch mine saw 100k out stock clutches are pretty awesome. Generally a stock clutch will last from like 80k-120k but dang 138k!

I think the thing that really kills your clutch is doing hard accleration with a lot of weight in the car. I took my friends to the mountain one day (4people) with hella stuff in the car and the clutch was never quite the same after that day.

HHAHA... Man i just went out to lunch, and i think the same thing is happening to me. i felt it slip in 3rd gear 3 times, i thought i might have bumped the clutch, but after 3 times... it doesnt do it in any other gear yet, and just started, so i will take it easy now...
