48556, Changing Rods and Pistons Posted by Diceman19, May-11-03 09:10 PM how hard is it to change out rods and pistons. what is involved. are there any write ups out and about? i searched but couldnt really find the answers i need. i am hoping to run hahn stage 3. probably 8-12 psi daily. i am new to turbo so go easy on my newb questions. what else is needed to build my bottom end? any other and all info is happily accepted. thanks all! | |

IF you engine is in good condition which the block most likely is because mine was sqeeky clean when I took mine apart you can take the head off, drop the pan, cross member, and downpipe off (the last 3 will have to be taken off to install the turbo anyway). Then you can unscrwe the rod caps and put the pistons out through the top. Then hone your cylinders CAREFULLY and clean em out real well. Then install your new pistons/rods with a ring compressor and put everything back together. Still a lotta work though... | |
