Well i went up to 9psi, and man is that crazy.... i really have no clue what i would run at that, but i want to find out. i think this coming sunday i will run at a local track to find out. Anyone here run there car? how fast have you gotten?

Blow why? Stock internals? I have been running 10 psi on a built motor no problem. so much fun.

I run 5 psi on a stage 1 and still wince every time I boost, expecting to hear a nice loud crack.

eh, when you blow piston ring landings there really isn't much noize... i was around 5000 rpm's at 9 psi going uphill, EGT's around 1450, and my A/F ratio was good. nothing made any noize, but the RPM's stopped climbing even know i was at WOT. i immidately let off the gas and my idle was shit, and the check engine light was blinking. i pulled over into a parking lot, prayed to god, and removed my oil dipstick, saw little white puffs, and realized that my engine was kicked. it was a good/bad feeing at the same time, you're like "shit my car is going to be DSM" (Down for Several Months) but it's a good excuse to get forged internals.

My stock motor went 3 MONTHES after upping to 12 psi...that was after going the previous 10 monthes at 9-10 psi, w/ occasional trips to 12psi.

I dont treat my car nicely either. constantly beating on it.

mine didnt last too long at 9 psi. but my fuel system was never right. just be careful and watch those egts

what was wrong with your fuel? how long did it last? what did it sound like?

i have had my share already of the engine idleing like shit, missfiring really bad, you name it almost... but i kept plugging away, and found vacuum leaks, a intercooler pipe leak, and other misc. stuff. once i fixed all that, it idles perfect, and runs even better.

for one my fuel pump was going bad i think. but most importantly, i bought a used sfmu and didnt change out the ratio disk. it wasnt high enough so in turn we turned the static fuel pressure up way high to have the boosted pressure high enough for 5-6 psi. i had a 9psi actuator and a mbc so i was seeing more than 5-6 psi. and since the idle was up so high, i would be pig rich in low boost levels but i was actually leaning out on the top end and didnt know it at the time. i ran 10 psi a couple times because i was racing a modded GT stang. i won tho :-). so its my fault. and if i had to do it all over again i would still buy another turbo kit. right now im just trying to make my car look better and then when im finished with the paint work n stuff im considering another turbo kit. good luck with yours.

i completely agree... but thanks to all for the concern, i spent alot of time researching this install, and if everything is tuned right, (which in any install it should be anyways) 9psi should be just fine. plus this car is a weekend warrior anyways. if she blows, then she blows. if you boost your non turbo car and dont expect that to happen at some point, then you havent researched enough, or just ignore the facts. since i plan on doing forged internals anyways, im cool with it. i will keep you updated if anything happens, but for now, i am really enjoying this power! :thumbsup

My Hahn stage 2 is in the mail as I type this. How much boost should I run for a daily driver? I was thinking 7-8 pounds.

i would say for daily driving - 5-8 psi, my car is weekends only, so its a little different. i just put mine down to 8psi for now, just taking everyone opinions into consideration, after the 3 months of planning and the 1 month installing on the weekends, i dont want to rebuild quite so soon. i would like to drive it around for awhile.

Eh. You guys are paranoid. Our engines stock can handle it as long as you have it set up properly. If you blew in one day then you had it wrong from the start.

Well, i am glad to see a vet with the 420a have confidense in boosting it... thats kinda the way i have always perceived it, and then i had a lot of people doubting all at the same time... with as much research and time i have into this project, the car is in perfect running order, and i think i will stick with my knowledge and expirience from here on out with it. i appreciate all opinions, but all setups vary, and so do everyones knowledge with boosting.

I dont think its so much paranoia. Yes, the stock engine can handle it, but whats to say there isn't some unforseen problem that makes your engine cry when you boost over 5-8? Sure, usually they seem to be able to handle it most of the time, but I'm also noticing alot of people blowing engines at 9psi.

Are these same people just slapping on turbos and cranking up the boost? Can we speak of the condition of their engine before they went turbo and how much care was taken in setting up the fuel?

We know none of the above, but I can safely guess other factors are usually going on with blown engines.

if your compression is good from the start and dont have alot of miles 100,000+ etc and did take care of your car it should hold up to 9psi if tuned right. i did 5-6psi for a few weeks, hmmm i think 2 weeks and it got boring. i have been at 9psi every since ( 1 year 7 months) about 15,000miles on her (beating on her most of the time) and some trips to 12psi. so far so good with my tuning ( fuel ).. every car and tuner are different

I'll throw my .02 in as well. Everyone always says if you go with what the Hahn manual says (and stick to it!) you will be fine. Well, the manual says for an intercooled car you can run 9lbs at fuel pressure of 110. I've been running that and it's fine ...
