i'm trying to figure out why i can't get good a/f readings, so if you could just post up where you've grounded your gauges i'd appreciate it. currently, mine is grounded at the driver's feet to the chassis behind that kick panel. it seems like a good ground, but apparantly it may not be good enough.

I have mine grounded at the ECU ground i believe. Its right there on the driver fender well, right between the ECU and battery. Its grounded to the fender with a bolt. I took off that bolt, got some of the paint off of the fender so it was nice, bare metal, then put my own ground wire with a ring terminal on there, and tightened it back up good. My gauge seems to work just fine. I've heard from other places, to have it grounded at the ECU also..

i drilled a hole in my a-pillar, and bolted it there... the total length of the ground for it is 3-4 inches or so...

hmmm, i have mine grounded behind the kick panel. there's a screw in the chassis with a stock ground wire grounded there as well(don't know what for). i also sanded away the paint in that area, and sanded down all the terminals. i would think that this ground would be just as good as the fender well. i'll try it though. i just can't figure out why i'm getting bad a/f readings. my datalogger shows that my fuel trims and my a/f volts are perfectly in spec. i also get no black smoke whatsoever, no matter how much gas i give it. my a/f gauges on the other hand, hit like 1.00x and stay there at partial throttle and in boost if i keep the throttle position constant. at wot my a/f gauges settle at .98ish . they should match up pretty closely w/ my datalogging results right? i'm kinda confused though, b/c all of my a/f connections are great. i'll switch the ground and see if that helps.

If you look at the steering column boot and look up and a little to the left you will see a square piece of steel sitting in just behind the clutch. It's kinda hard to get to, but I drilled a 1/8 in there and tapped it for a screw. I ran all my gauges wires down the pillar and behind the dash and then grounded them there. Nice and clean looking and fairly easy access later if you need too. If you want a picture let me know.

The best place to ground anything is as short of a wire as possible. I personally think that you should use a short self tapping metal screw, and go in somewhere very close to the gauge. Less chance of intereference from other eletronics or wires nearby.

I get power at the ECU, signal at the ECU, and ground through a screw driven into the ECU bracket. No negative numbers on decell...

I just grounded mine to the bolt under the dash by the drivers door. I had it gounded poorly and was geting a bad reading, now it works great.

Grounding is difficult sometimes. I've tried for the last 2 years to get a perfecr ground for my amplifiers, and have failed. I just can't get rid of the loop noise. That leads me to beleive I'm having other problems. My alternator could be slowly dying, and that can induce noise anywhere in your grounding plane. Hopefully my A/F gauge works ok, otherwise I maybe stuck out in the ocean on this one.

i think you're talking about the same bolt that i have mine grounded. could it be my 12v const? i have all my gauges power tapped into the same wire. i didn't think that this would give any false readings. i'm definitely off, b/c when i hit boost it goes to 1.0x sometimes, and when i decel it can go to -.0xx, and according to my datalogging, my a/f olts never go near either of these readings.

I actually have a question about the air/fuel readings I'm getting. I just hooked up the gauge today.

At idle, you can see 1 LED thats brightest, and 2 to 4 lighter bars on each side of the bright one. They all move back and forth between Rich and Lean at idle, probably moving to lean, sitting for a second or so, then they move back to rich, sit for a second, and continue the pattern.

At full throttle, it displays full rich, and the minute I let of the gas, it shows full lean, until the engine resumes it's idle.

Are these consistant with what you guys are reading? I'm curious, because most of what this gauge is able to show is pretty worthless. I was told that before, but I wanted it even if it just the slightest bit useful.

you only get a reading at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) the rest of the time the engine is constantly looking for the proper air fuel mix so it just sits there and "Knight Riders" for a while.


Mines grounded kinda funny, cause of where it is. I used the cig lighters power and ground, and then I spliced ina wire and have it grounded to the body under the cup holder. So its kinda "double grounded"
