I am building my top end right now and I have stainless steel valves, crane springs, crane turbo cams, pt lifters, all new retainers. I did not buy the titanium ones....how important is this should I buy the titanium retainers? Why are they better than stock?

the titanium retainers are stronger than the regular ones.

Titanium retainers in my opinion are not used for their strength per say. they are made in order to lighten the valve, valve keeper and retainer assembly lighter. when you make this combo lighter, your valves are less likely to float at high rpm's because of the lower mass, which creates less momentum as the valves are opening.

Bingo. if you're not looking to rev to 10,000RPM, save the cash and buy regular steel.

haha god i wish i could tune my car to run 10,000rpm's safely and effectively.

Or to even be able to REACH 10,000RPM. Without a standalone, it's just not possible.

So what would you need to hit 9 or 10,000 rpm? Sounds interesting. How would you tune things so that your engine kept making power up there, instead of just dropping off after 5500 like it does now?

The right cams and forced induction would probably do the job.

Sometimes just the right cams with enough Throttle bodies....

so say you do get new Ferrea valves new crane valve springs, titanium retainers since all of this makes it lighter overall (right?) would this help as far as the car revvin quicker/easier?
please teach me.

So I am building my engine right now with the intentions of boosting 20+ psi. Right now I have JE pistons, Crower rods, crane turbo cam, pt lifter, crane springs. I bought new stock retainers but now I am thinking I should of bought titanium retainers....what do u fellas think?
