47668, Cam timing and EGT's

Ok I noticed something since I put the motor back in. Before anytime I tried to pull in 4th or 5th the EGT would FLY to 1600 degrees and I'd have to let off. I couldn't pull for more than a few seconds. Well now that I have the motor back in I got to boost it for the first time today. I'm running the same boost (15psi) same fuel pressures, EIC settings, intercooler, fuel pump. Everything is exactly the same. I all did when the engine was out was redo a bunch of gaskets, stud the manifold, paint some stuff, and redo the timing. Well today I did a 5th gear pull UP HILL and was boosting 15psi for a good 10 seconds and the EGT's barely reached 1500. On all of my pulls I never went over 1500 degrees. It was 1200 cruising and A/F voltage was 1.00 at the most. Usually it was around .96 The only thing that's different that I think could have made a difference is the timing. It was off before and now it's right on. I read in another post that XtremeRS was saying that cam gears were the only thing he can think of that could fix Matt_95tgs's high EGT's. Well if the timing being off made that big of a difference on my car maybe he's right. Does this sound right or is it just a freak coincidence?

Yeah, if your timing was off, like a tooth off on the timing belt, that can def cause some high EGT #'s. Basically, you were creating too much cylinder pressure with the timing being off that much, and too much pressure raises EGT's considerably. Matt_95tgs does have some high EGT's, but its not quite at 1600. But its close. There always is the possibility of probe temp differences, placement, ect..which makes it more of a "guessing" game when tuning to EGT's..But your A/F voltage sounds about right with your egt numbers. What was strange with Matt's setup, was that he was getting pretty rich A/F #'s, but his EGT's were almost 1600 degrees.. I'd like to see what adj cam gears can do for us when we get in higher boost..
