Okay, no debate here please. Its established that 4AN is as good as 6AN for retuen lines.
Just good basic info on setting up fuel system and lines for 97+ w/SFMU. I need to do my this week and have searched the MANY bits and pieces of prior posts. Help be establish a "get all you info here" post that we can do into a page od sorts...

1. In-tank walbro 255lph does not need additional in-line, correct?
2. Stock FPR is removed completely?
3. fuel line into rail is what diameter?
4. test port is 4AN, yes?
5. is 4AN from rail into SFMU fine?
6. hard line vs. S/S return is PREFERENTIAL??????? Rubber hose is bad?????
7. Best way to connect return line to tank.

this is very basic at this point, please feel free to expound. lets try to keep it factual, not opinioned.

help me to help others....:P

you must remember to run the same size or larger return line as supply line. if not the added restriction will cause a fuel pressure increase. i HAVE done this and I am talking from experience. I may be the only person that has -6AN steel braided line from the fuel pump to the fuel rail and back 100%, so believe me when i say this.

I agree with james man..
but for your set up.

1. In-tank walbro 255lph does not need additional in-line, correct?
-YES

2. Stock FPR is removed completely?
-Remove the whole fpr and fuel filter., will be very hard trying to plug the hole where the fpr sits. just buy a universal fuel filter ($8 about) make sure it is for fuel injection engines

3. fuel line into rail is what diameter?
If you are going with a -4AN return then use the same for the supply.

4. test port is 4AN, yes?
YES
5. is 4AN from rail into SFMU fine?
yes if your supply and return are the same size. key here is having all things equal size.

6. hard line vs. S/S return is PREFERENTIAL??????? Rubber hose is bad?????
s/s fuel line is fine.. you can get it for about $5 a foot. from www.pegasusautoracing.com

7. Best way to connect return line to tank.
can just use a hose clamp and clamp the line to the "hard" line in the tank. or fit a barb nipple on the s/s line and then run a small rubber line from that barb to the "hard" return line on the tank also clamp both ends down with a hose clamp. that should do it for you.

Make sure you get all the fittings for the hose ends and adapters to get them hooked up to the fuel Rail.

Hope that helped.

It would be really helpful if someone actually wrote out EXACTLY how to step by install the complete fuel system. From running the lines to mounting the SFMU to connecting everything together. It would a great help to many of us.

I can do that.. just give me a couple of days and I will have something with pics.
I will need a place for someone to host it.
47296, Inline fuel pumps are necessary for boosting higher than 6 psi

WHEN USING STOCK INJECTORS, an inline fuel pump is NECESSARY.

This was discussed to very great lengths, literally years ago, by capable and interested parties. http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=1229

I'm always here to reiterate that point, since I'm sure noone wants to rely upon wrong information that costs thousands of dollars. Spread the word, people. ("Think Inline!")

^^^ yeah, you NEED an inline if running stock injectors, or if you otherwise need fuel press in the 95+ range. i'm gonna post all the fitments and p/n's i used to go from the fuel rail to the sfmu w/ 6AN braided SS line. i just have to find the invoice.

If you can write up everything, I can host it. It would help out so many of us. Just let me know.

So youre saying that with the stock injectors im going to have to run a inline? So does that mean that I can just use a 190lph pump with the inline instead of the 255 when running only 6psi? Because at that rate buying an inline and a 255 is more expensive then just buying a 255 and injectors.

well imo, it is reallly worth the extra money to get new injectors. not to mention the fact that for someone who isn't buying a kit, you can subtract the cost of an inline. w/ bigger injects, you'll have more flexability, less stress on the fuel system, and lower egts because of it. you also have potential to run more boost in the future.

either way, the need for an inline depends on how much fuel press you need, not the size of the injectors. it just happens that w/ the stock injectors, you'll need 100+psi of fuel press to run 5-8 psi of boost. this is why you'll need an inline. the walbro flows almost no fuel at that fp.

bottom line is, it pays in more ways than 1 to get bigger injects, i mean, most honda kits come w/ injectors as part of the kit. it's a necessary upgrade imo. however, if you must use the stockers, then yes, you'll need an inline. in that case, i guess both the 190 and the 255 would be fine, i mean, even the stock pump will do fine. the intank is just feeding fuel to the inline.

Also, you might want to add that you keep the stock FPR if you are running a non-adjustable FMU. Like if you are using the Vortech FMU like in the star kit you keep the stock FPR.
If you are running the SFMU then you disconnect the stock FPR.

Okay so far we have this:

1. run the same size or larger return line as supply line.
2. In-tank walbro 255lph does not need additional in-line pump.
3. WHEN USING STOCK INJECTORS,or if you otherwise need fuel press in the 95+ range an inline fuel pump is NECESSARY.
4. Remove the whole fpr and fuel filter. will be very hard trying to plug the hole where the fpr sits. just buy a universal fuel filter ($8 about) make sure it is for fuel injection engines.
5. test port is 4AN, 4AN line from rail into SFMU is fine.
6. s/s fuel line is fine for intake and return.

so, you CAN run a 4AN line from the rail to the sfmu (reduced down from the 6AN fitting) and be fine as long as the return line is same or bigger. No harm reported either way, right??? people are running both, correct?

side question: i havent been under car yet to look, but what does the low pressure rubber line on our fuel tank run to?

personally i'm running a 6AN from the rail to the sfmu, and a 4AN return... no fuel press problems as of yet. the 6AN line is only about 6" long.

Posted by tim97rs, Apr-23-03 07:03 PM
did you modify the test port on the rail to 6AN, or do you just have an expander from 4AN to 6AN?
47408, RE: Help me establish a Turbo Fuel System Line write-up/how to..READ...
Posted by 97eclipseRS, Apr-23-03 07:56 PM
from the test port i have:

4AN female coupler -> male 6AN to 4AN reducer(reverse it to expand) -> 90* female 6AN coupler -> 6AN male to 6AN male fuel gauge adapter -> 6AN ss braided hose end -> SS braided hose-> 90* femal 6AN coupler -> sfmu in

the first 90* coupler mentioned along w/ the 6AN male fuel gauge adapter aren't needed unless you want to hook up an electronic fp sender.

overall the fitment was very tight, and took a long time to get it all in there and tight. here are some pics. sorry if some are blurry. it was hard to get good shots, but they may help illustrate a bit.

fuel rail fittings

sfmu placement

i mounted the sfmu sideways, as you can see from the pics, with the static set screw poimting towards the pass side. i bent the edge of the right side of the bracket to about a 45* angle, and mounted that one hole using the lower c/c bracket hole and screw. it's real tight, but secure, although a bit of a pain to adjust the fp's

there really is no benefit in going from 4AN to 6AN, other than convienance sake for fittings, since the 4AN is going to be the point of greatest restriction, right? how does it effect the fuel pressure after the 4AN on the test port? wont it take more pressure past the test port than before it since its a bottleneck, or will it just take longer to get to the same pressure as the rail side? or is it just not that big of an increase from 4 to 6AN to really make a difference?

this make sence?
thanks

well i understand that it won't flow any better using 6AN just between the fuel rail and the sfmu. at the time of planning it out it just seemed more convenient to have the reducers on the rail side of the line rather than on the sfmu side, so i went w/ the 6AN line so i wouldn't need any fittings on the sfmu connection. if i was doing it again, though, i'd ue 4AN, just b/c of the small amount of space there is to work w/. the 4AN line would probably fit and flex a bit better than the 6... easier fitment.

Ok... so where exactly are you guys plugging the SFMU into your fuel rail? A test port? I was looking around my engine bay today, and underneath the top part of the intake manifold, and I see the fuel rail, but where is this test port?

That's a Wings West Custom 3pc. I liked the look of the turbo spoilers, but I found this, and liked it even more. One of my favorite parts of the exterior project.

No, the body shop had to weld the holes shut, and make new ones. The wing itself cost about 300 or so, I believe.

Anyone know what happened to ths writeup? I'm looking to install my Walboro pump, 30# injectors and swapping my Cartech with an SFMU. A writeup to follow would be great!
