47002, New front mount intercooler is in! (PICS)

yea...the front end got fucked up last night due to a semi-tire (see The Pits post for more pics of that :( )

anywho, went ahead and hooked up the new FMIC this morning...

made a couple new cuts into the front end as well. Had to trim away the passenger fig light area to clear the piping (driver side was already trimmed from the last FMIC -- you can also see more of the damge from the tire on this side too :()

also, notice how high the fmic goes...and how low the front opening goes, so i cut away some (a lot) of the lip from inderneath to get flow to the entire intercooler

if you lay on the ground, and loop under that lip, this is what you see
:thumbsup

All done

(before someone asks...the hood is gapped higher at the back on purpose ;) theres spacers in the hinge, DSM and V8 trick, basically a ghetto-cowl hood )

the fmic is from the recent groupbuy posted in the for sale forum a lil while ago...core is 22x12x3... piping is ghetto jc-whitney/driveway special ;)

headlight opening, i just used a dremel and cutout the shape i wanted and then cutout the bright...got that idea a while back from the supra guys

hehe, thanks again for having that groupbuy. was going to get a new fmic from another source but that fell through, and i was lucky enough to get one of yours before you ran out at the time :thumbsup

about the intercooler, i just started running 11psi again yesterday, but the car feels great. after making several passes in the car, the fmic stays the same temp, even down here in s.florida heat. The hot pipe from the turbo would be hot to the touch, and the cold side actually felt cooler than ambient temps. even despite its huge size, the lag is not much more noticable (if at all) than after driving around w/o an intercooler for the last couple weeks. At the same boost levels, the car just feels stronger than it did w/ my previous Spearco fmic (21x7x2.5 spearco bar and plate core).

I was running 12lbs on the stock 9.6:1 motor before, and the car just seems to pull so much harder now, even tho im only running 11lbs on a 8.8:1 motor. Im sure some of that is due to the lighter rotating mass, but im very happy the new fmic so far. Ill be staying in S.FL for the summer, so itll get put to the test soon w/ very hot summer temps ;)

Excellent, glad to hear its doing its job. Just to make a slight correction, the core is actually 24" wide :P If anyone else is looking for one for the summer, let me know.
