46775, after 3yrs finally found the problem Posted by Tommyboy, Apr-14-03 03:25 PM
We'll guys after 3yrs I couldn't find out why my car wouldn't start sometimes. for 3yrs I had to have a push start button cause I couldn't find out what the problem was. I mean sometimes my car would star and sometimes it wouldn't. I don't know which one was the culprit but I dissabled the factory alarm and my timming was off by a tooth. I think it was my timming but the funny thing is my check engine light never came on ,so it is possible HADESOMEGA for our timming to be off and the check engine light not to come on. so my car starts up with no problems So I guess I'll get rid of this push start button. I wonder if my engine blew up along time ago cause the timming was off by a tooth probably not 8lbs of boost and my timming was off by a tooth on the intake side. We'll at least I fixed it now starts up with the key.( )

errr ... if you blew up the motor then you had to take the timing belt off to rebuild the engine and you had to put the timing belt back on so unless it was off a tooth before it blew up and then was put back on a tooth off when it got put back together I think you can rule that out as a cause for it going kaboom.

On top of what He^^^ said. 8lbs might not kill ya but bad tuning will as well.
Besides how much damage can having the intake off by a tooth be?
I mean we change cam timing with cam gears, isn't that the same thing?
I doubt a tooth will cause valve to piston problems. I KNOW a couple teeth will tho, my bro (Vectorracing) knows that one all to well :P

Actually as I recall Tommyboy didn't remove his engine or timing belt at all when he did the rebuild. He just pulled the crank out from underneath, and shoved factory pistons back up in there... Right?

no i did pull the head and timming belt but I marked the cam gears with white out before I pulled the belt. I didn't even bother to check the tick marks on the cam gears cause the are really hard to see that was my mistake. damm it would be hard to pull the crank from the bottom that mug is heavy
