I am buying Crane's #14 turbo cams.....what else should I buy? Should I buy the PT lifters, new springs, and new valves? I have 60,000 miles on my car.

timing belt tensioners, timing belt, water pump, cam seals, cam gears if you want to tune correctly for a good powerband.

yes, but dont buy stock springs

You probably don't need new springs, unless the ones you have are worn. Definately get yourself some new PT lifters though - the stock lifters suck.

It shows some good pictures of the PT stuff compared to the old stuff. It also explains a bit about why they're better. Basically, the rockers have a beefier tip so it is less prone to break and the lifters have a bleed hole in the top that keeps em nice and juiced.

The reason I suggest the new lifters is not entirely because that they're so much better than the old ones(which they are), its just that the old ones are so bad. My 95's lifters ticked since I bought it in 96. When I replaced mine - all of the rocker arms were so loose that I could jiggle them. With the new lifters, no more noise and the rockers fit snug as a bug. I've talked with people that have had problems with "the tickers" and I've also seen quite a few posts with people complaining about them. So it seems to me that the stockers just seem to suck.

The reason I don't suggest the upgrading the PT rockers or upgrading the springs/retainers is that the stock parts don't seem to be too problematic. Kind of falls into the category, if it aint broke don't fix it. Even with running loose rockers for 6 years, my rockers were fine - no cracks, some minor score rings on a couple of the rollers, but all in all they looked good. I've even had a years worth of .376/.376 lift regrinds banging at them, which is quite a bit more than the stock .324/.276 lift. Some people have broken a rocker or two - but most of the time it's because the timing belt broke.

So there you have it. The stock cams and lifters suck. The rest is ok...unless you're going for a higher redline - then by all means, upgrade everything that moves in the head(at least).

2 1/2 years of seeing 7200 rpm in almost every gear all the time will do it. I also had regrind drag cams which made power past 7200 rpm. That's when they started breaking.
