Hey all,

I am thinking about buying a stock 2G T-25 turbo for my custom kit, but I'm not sure if the wastegate on it is set low enough for my plans. I thought I heard they are like 10 psi or something... sounds like a bit much for want I want at first. I want to be around 7 psi or so. Will this turbo work, you think?

They are set at about 11 psi. Some people have had luck lengthening the actuator arm, which actually keeps the wastegate from closing completely. Another method is to put a spring on the actuator arm which adds more tension, which makes the wastegate open faster. The second mod is a better way to go, but the shape of the t-25 actuator arm makes it hard to do.

if you're wanting to put a T25 on your car, for whatever reason, stop. Sell your car. Buy a 2G turbo.

Why put a completely useless POS turbo on your car? of you're going to do it, do it right. Use a 16g a least..

Bend the bracket holding the actuater towards the exhauste housing. It does the same thing as lengthing the arm without having to cut and thread it.

Yes my car's pictures are used by Aerogear, and Howell Performance (however Howell did not have my permission). Also, Darkone, you say to get at least a 16G... well help me find one that isn't 600 damn bucks. DSMTrader doesn't have many floating around, and most are expensive.

You know, I expected more from our fearless leader. Not all people want to break records or have a 12 second car. There is nothing wrong with a t-25. (unless you have illusions of your car being really fast on a t-25, then he is absolutely right)

The disadvantage of that is its not adjustable. I dunno about you, but I wouldn't want to have to take the actuator arm off and bend it everytime I wanted to change my boost "setting" And with the spring deal you can do the math and pretty much know what you are going to be running.

I wish I had a wastegate in front of me to fiddle with. I don't even completely know how they open and close. I think I'm going to buy this T-25 I found for 150 bucks, unless someone has some really convincing arguments.

How about 4 arguments
1 this turbo is a major pain in the ass to fit on the 420a engine because shape of the turbo versus the limited space
2 150 is twice what you should pay for it
3 try to find a manifold
4 maybe it's only a t-25 but everything else you need will cost you the same, in the end you will only save maybe 100 on a 2000 budget

alain i totally agree,

the t3 fits much better in the engine bay, much more of a versitial start out turbo cause it can be switched to a t4 at anytime and easier to get parts for..

Undeniably, Bill's kit should be substantially cheaper when he finishes them. Right now it sounds like somewhere in the 200 dollar cheaper range. I know the two turbo's from the different kits are slightly different. Star is using some sort of T3/T4 hybrid I beleive. Bill plans to use a T3 as far as I know. Both systems are not intercooled. I bought a 1G SMIC, so hopefully mine will be intercooler shortly after I buy my kit. We'll have to wait before me make any final decisions until after Bill released the full and complete kit. Until then, it's great to see another turbo system for our 420A's.

Anyone that wastes there money on a 420A and sticks a T-25 on the car needs to be smacked! Oh course what do I know, that's just my opinion!!!

I wouldn't go that far, even though I have since decided to abort the idea of a T-25. The T-25 can't be too bad of a turbo... the new Mazdaspeed Protege uses a T-25, and Mazda knows their turbo's.

i agree. T-25 is a pos turbo. I have a T25 and it's slow. My car is slow. I probably run low 14s which is crap. I want to run mid 13s but whatever. I'd honestly get a 16g turbo.. in my opinion those are the best all around turbos and fast for the price..600 for a turbo is average..if you want a big big big nice fast turbo you could get some turbos that cost 2 or 3 grand. i wanted a FP T-28 turbo for my car and it costs about 500-600..if not more..so 600 for a 16g isn't bad..is't alright. but i wouldn't put a T-25 on a 420a..i'd get 16g turbo or 20g.
