46517, My custom Turbo Kit is almost completed!!! Posted by gilee_8, Apr-10-03 06:49 AM
Sup guys. As the topic said, it's almost time for me to go for turbo!!! Can't wait man. I just ordered the Manifold, Vortech SFMU and oil line kit from GotTude.com. As soon as they are here, I will be mostly set to start my turbo install.... CAN"T WAIT GUYS....
Well, I have 3 questions. I basically konw 90% of how to install the Turbo..but I still have confusion about 2 parts.
1) (This is not related to turbo installation) Any of you turbo guys purchased manifold and etc from Motofool (gotTude.com) before? How long is it usually take for you to recieve the package?
2) (here is my confusion) First: BOV, second: fuel. BOV, where do I connect the vaccum nipple of the BOV to?? I saw many post on here, but none of them really give me a confirm answer. I konw Wastegate's nipple, I just connect that to the output of the turbo size how bout the BOV?? same place? (I know the BOV will be installed to the intake pipe coming from the intercooler, but don't konw about the vacuum part)
3) Fuel, I got a 1995 early version of Eclipse. I got the Walbro 255 and the Vortech SFMU. Now what do I need? I mean deal parts. Do I REMOVE the stock fuel pump and fuel regulator and replace them with walbro and SFMU? or I add them to the stock? Also, for the SFMU, it has a vacuum nipple again, where does it connect to? Finally, for the fuel line. I heard I need a return fuel line back to the tank, what you mean by that? from the SFMU back to the tank? or from the fuel pump? why I need that return line? Also where does it go back to? do I have to drill a hole on the tank? (I hope not...)
Thanks guys.... I think the above questions are my last major questions man. I have to say.. you guys gave much help to me already.. Thanks man! :thumbsup :thumbsup :D :-) ;) :7 }(

1) no, I have not purchased anything from gotTude.com
2 & 3) The vacuum lines for the BOV and the SFMU both need to connect to your intake manifold. You'll need to remove your stock fuel pump and replace it with the Walbro. This is done from inside the car, the pump is located under the back seat. No drilling needed. I removed my stock fuel pressure regulator and replaced with the SFMU, and I have a return line going from the SFMU back to the tank. However, I drive a 97 GS, so I'm not sure if it's different for a 95.
Hope this helped.

I dont think you need to run a fuel return line. I think thats only for 96 and up models. Check to see where your fuel filter is. If its under the hood, then you dont need to run a return line. If your fuel filter is in the back by the fuel pump, then youll need to run one.

Thanks guy...also, you said the BOV and the SFMU is connected to the intake size of the turbo. But the wastegate is connected to that right?
SO you saying BOV and wastegate is connected to the same spot?? Can any of you provide a picture or something that shows where the BOV is connected to? i am lost here.... Thanks. Gil.:rolleyes

Ok, one line goes from the compressor side of the turbo to the wastegate. This regulates boost pressure.
The vacuum lines for the BOV and the SFMU run to the INTAKE MANIFOLD.

The pump is under the back seat - in the gas tank.
The 95s have a return line already, and our stock FPR is on the rail. Here's a writeup(from the mods section) on the FMU install for 95s http://www.2gnt.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=54

Thanks .... it's good to have someone that is the same year as mine.... 1995!!! anyway... so if the fuel return line is there already...so we just have to replace the Fuel pump and the SFMU ..and that's good for the fuel system for turbo? No need to add any hose or line or whatsoever?? and for the fuel filter..>I want to change that also. Since you said we already have the return line...is that mean the filter is in the engine bay area?? where is it?? which corner?? under what??? I been trying to locate it.. But I can't find it.
Also when I do the fuel etc replacemnet.....will the gas bust out when I change the fuel pump and so on???
Thanks man! Gil.

>...so we just have to replace the Fuel pump and the >SFMU ..and that's good for the fuel system for turbo?
You need to replace the fuel pump and you need to install the SFMU. Read that writeup I posted. It explains that the stock FPR also needs to be disabled and includes a link to Corbin's writeup on how to disable the stock FPR(for 95s). http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/fpr.html
And I can't just answer yes on this question. Do you know what rising rate you need for the injectors that you'll be using? If the injectors are not stock - Do you know what to set the static fuel pressure to? Not to sound rude or anything, but IS more to a turbo fuel system then slapping in parts. You need to be sure that the system is going to give the engine enough fuel.
>No need to add any hose or line or whatsoever??
Not nessicarily. It depends on where you mount the SFMU. When I helped PowerEclipse install his, we mounted the Cartech(like an SFMU) to the passenger's side firewall. I think we had to extend the main fuel line in order to reach it. I think we also had to extend the return line as well. Check it out. Look in the engine bay. The main fuel line AND the return line go into the rail on the driver's side. So like I said - depends on where you mount the SFMU.
>and for the fuel filter..I want to change that also. >Since you said we already have the return line...is that mean >the filter is in the engine bay area?? where is it?? which >corner?? under what??? I been trying to locate it.. But I >can't find it.
Yes it is in the engine bay. It is somewhat of a PAIN IN THE ASS to get to for a fuel filter. It's benieth the washer resevoir...of all places. You have to remove the battery, detatch/move the brake resevoir out of the way, and detatch/move the washer resevoir out of the way - just to get to the friggin filter on the 95s.
Just a side note here - One night my dad and I were looking at some 2gnt writeup or instruction manual(I think it was the HRC instructions - not sure). So he's sitting there reading for a long time, and I'm drinkin a beer talking to my brother and all the sudden he turns around - "You gotta be pulling my dick! You have to REMOVE the god damn BATTERY to get to the FUEL FILTER?!?!?". And I was like "Yeah, but not if I have anything to do with it. That IS a pisser though, isn't it?". I had already decided at that point, and had already purchased, a high-flow Russel Competition filter for my new fuel system(8 inj), and I had already decided that the filter will be mounted in PLAIN SIGHT so I can check/clean it easily. Sorry...just something that irks me - hiding the regular maintenance items deep in the bowels of an engine bay - guess it runs in the family.
>Also when I do the fuel etc replacemnet.....will the gas bust >out when I change the fuel pump and so on???
Yeah, the FPR keeps pressure in the system whether the car is on or off. There should be pressure in the main fuel line and rail so it should leak out a bit when you disconnect the rail inlet, or the tank outlet, or whatever part of the pressurized system that you disconnect. It's no biggie. This is kind of generally accepted garage etiquitte - Don't smoke while you're disconnecting the fuel lines...It's ok when you're watching someone do it, but not when you're actually doing it.
It does sound close. You do sound excited. Take it easy man. You're almost there.

Yo....MetalJim Cool man. You are a great help. Now I completely understood... but from the link you gave me on your post. I mentioned about sawing the stock FPR and put it back? but if I use the SFMU, I don't need the stock FPR right? so I do'nt need to saw it?
Also one thing. I am planning to use my stock injectors, but using SFMU and Walbro 255 fuel pump. But now, I am only running around 5PSI. After rebuilt I will run 10PSI or 14PSI max. so will the stock injector good for me now? 5PSI. and how bout for 10PSI and so on?
What is the cc of the stock injector?
Thanks man. I appreciated your help!:thumbsup

For the stock FPR... it already has vac line connected to it? if so,.. can I just use that for my SFMU and the BOV? Thanks

>>>but i do'nt konw where to connect the hose that control the BOV???<<<
It connects to a vacuum source on the intake manifold.

since i've never used an external wastegate, i would assume they were the same as an interal. there should be a fitting somewhere on your turbo to hook it too.
