Sup guys.. This questions is definitely for the people who are on this board for definitely a long time.. .... (with turbo of course)

Anyway...here are my questions: basically only 2 questions:

1) I got cold intake right now. Is it matter then I have to change it back to my stock intake and airfilter before I go for the emission test? I live in CT (next to NY) and they do pop my hood.
(simple questions.... second is more ...complex)

2) As you all konw, I started gathering parts for my custom turbo kit. And I will put it on this summer. But then I worried about my emission. Also, I did planned to sell all the stock parts after going for turbo. But now again, I thought about the emission test, and I am thinking if I need to put everything back to stock before the emission test every two years. Well, I am 95% sure that I have to put my car back to stock state (not sure about cold intake stated above) But ok..fine, I accept the fact that I do, and I don't mind since I only do this once every 2 years. But still. I have a question: Do I have to change the fuel pump and reguler and so on back also??? or can I just plug my cold intake back, change the manifold and the downpipe.and that's all???? I will be using a Walbro 255 fuel pump and Vortech SFMU. Can I somehow adjust it, so it will go back to the stock fuel pressure and etc??? or I have to jack my car up...unplug the fuelpump and SFMU ...and all those shit before I can go back to stock?

THANKS guys... This is very important for all our 2GNT people.... coz then I have to save all my stock parts...or annoy ourself out every 2 years that we have to change the fuel crap also.. Thanks man.
Any input iwll be appreciated.

Just a little info,

Back in the day before I was turbo, I passed a NJ state facility emission inspection with an exhaust and cold air intake. The inspector did pop my hood but didn't say anything.

As far as the turbo passing inspection, I have not had to go yet. I still have another year. Before I bought the turbo kit, I asked my mechaninc if I would pass. He said yes as in New Jersey there is no Visual Inspection Test. I believe that if your fuel setup is correct (not overly rich), you should pass.

My mechanic did mention that you do not want to take your car to a state facility and then once you fail bring it back to a mechanic to pass your car. The mechanic can not pass the car once it fails. A check list is written of repairs/changes that needs to be made. My guess is that the mechanic has to sign off that the repairs where made (i.e. turbo kit removed, etc).

The easiest way to have your car inspected is to take the car to a mechanic from the start. I plan to lower my fuel pressures down a bit and change the plugs before I take my car for the test. I will also ask the mechanic to allow the car to warm up properly before administering the test. My mechanic is pretty cool and I shouldn't have an issue passing. I've given him plenty of business and he doesn't give me any problems. He has passed me before.

Hope this helps,
Kurt

well if they do a visual and are strict about it, putting the stock airbox back on won't do anything. if you think it might fool the person into thinking it's stock, once they scan the registration it'll say that it's supposed to be a non turbo car.

i think taking off your kit is a bit much. if you know the mechanic and he's willing to at least pass you on the visual, than given that you're tuned correctly, you should have no problem passing emissions. i'm in nyc and i always take it to a mechanic that knows my family well. they never do a visual on me and if i asked i'm sure he would make "sure i pass" if i didn't think i could. we have to go for emissions every year and mine comes up in sept, so we'll see what happens. also, if you don't think you'll pass, you can do a test run, where the results don't get sent in. you do have to pay for this though.

however, if you did insist on taking your kit off, you could leave the fuel system. the sfmu wouldn't see any boost b/c there wouldn't be any and therefore the car would run as it always does before you build positive pressure. you would just need to replace the turbo/mani, dp, and put on your stock intake piping.

Thanks guys.
Here is my other question.
From what ^^^ said. This is my situation first.
For this summer, I will be driving average of 200miles a day. And I am still gathering my parts. so I don't want to put my turbo up to my car first coz I don't want to put too much mileage to my car in 3 months (like 20,000 miles) So I want to put it in my car near the end of summer. But I still want to start installing the parts to my car.

Question::wary
I am thinking of installing the Intercooler, and gauges first. but now, from what ^^^ said, can I install all the fuel pump and the SFMU and the fuel return line...etc... And run without turbo?
Can I do that? I mean, can I use the SFMU, walbro 255 ...etc.... all still running NO TURBO...??? will I use more gas? or will it kill my engine?? or somthing?

Thanks.

you can definitely do all that first and still run just like stock. personally i think it's much better to get all that out of the way(gauges, fuel system) before you do any turbo install. this way you can iron out and tune any fuel problems w/o risking harm to your engine.

That's Sweet man.. Thanks!!!
But for our engine 420A. if I DON"T put the turbo in..so running stock..but then I play around with the SFMU....like get ues to it... how to tune and so on... then I got too lean ...will I still get detonation? and blow the engine?

Thanks man.
It's a great tim.
Now I will deifnitely instaall everything first before I do the turbo, so I can get everyready first. THANKS!!

detonation can happen with or without a turbo. Granted a turbo will make it more obvious since it heats and compresses the air. In NA form though, it is unlikely. If your car is running fine now, it should be no prob.
