When we were installing my S-FMU, my friend was doing the S-FMU while I was doing my rear strut bar. The S-FMU was mounted perfectly and worked fine. Until today I did a little liberated driving, and I look under the engine bay (first time in a week or so, so this might have happened a while ago) and see my S-FMU limply hanging between my passenger side strut tower and my intake mani. What the heck? So I checked to see where the S-FMU connects to the mounting bracket and can't feel/see anything. Does the S-FMU just rest in that bracket? Why did mine slide off? We had to bend the bracket a bit to fit it under the hood. Can anybody help me out?

The aluminum mounting bracket that comes with the Vortech SFMU is attached to the SFMU at each corner with two screws. Maybe the screws were loose and fell out or two much stress was put on the screws and they snapped (unlikely).

I never used the mounting bracked on my SFMU. I took it off and the SFMU is simply wedged into the tight spot under the cruise control servo(can't go anywhere).

I did the same thing as ^^he did. I couldn't figure out a way to use the mounting bracket, so I just pushed it all down into the engine bay where my old Cartech used to be. The SFMU is such a big unit that it fits pretty snug down there.

i am still using that bracket. like they said, the bracket is held on by two screws.

I have it mounted where the windshield fluid resevior would normally go.

I made my own bracket and took out the cruise control :) Yes, i do miss it sometimes hehe..I can relocate it thoguh, just not a priority right now. After that cruise is out, there is LOTS of room to play with.

You can't just let it sit in there! I would be afrain of the engine vibrating against it. I forget exactly how I did it but I still have my cruise and my SFMU is mounted to my old cruise bracket perfectly horizontal tucked just under and in front of my throttle cable box. It was very tight and took some serious bending of brackets and imagination but it all works perfectly(took me about 6 hours to figure it out my brain was already from installing every thing else). I would not just let it lay in the engine bay. If something was to happen and a fuel line brakes or gets cut you would have a very serious problem. ie your car catching on fire! I am going to be redoing my vortech next weekend so if anybody is interested, I will post how everything is mounted and what I used.

took my cruise out also. now there is alot of room. and i just bent the bracket a bit and screwed the screw into the super-fmu tight and its been good to me so far. or you can make a custom holder.

Well it's not like it's dragging on the ground under the car. It's just propped up from the fuel hose under it leading to the fuel pressure gauge right now. Tomorrow I'm going to go out and grab some plastic ties and tie it to the bracket until I can find tools (we just moved) and see about screwing it in tight.

Oh BTW, would anyone happen to know the thread type and length of the screws used to mount it? Thanks.

Even though my SFMU is not held in by a bracket it does not move very much. On the firewall where all the brake lines and heater hoses are, there are some metal clips used to hold some of these hoses and electronic hoses to the firewall away from the engine. I used these metal clips to secure the return fuel hose and keep it away from the engine. Not only does it keep the fuel hose away from the engine but it also prevents the SFMU from moving anywhere. I also did this with the fuel hose coming from the fuel rail (if you tie wrap this line you can secure the SFMU from moving around).


As a last precaution, I also put some foam tape around the outer edge of the SFMU to protect it from banging up against the intake manifold.


I like not having a bracket as it makes readjusting fuel pressures a piece of cake. I can simply tilt the vortech forward, out from under the cruise control, and get at the jam nut/adjustment screw without removing anything from the car.
