46129, T3-IHI Turbo question... Posted by kaotik, Apr-03-03 09:41 AM
Hey whats up!!! i am doing a turbo setup on my sebring 5spd (420A) right now... i have ordered everything, and will be starting the install in about 2-3 weeks... i have a question hopefully someone can anwser. Well i decided to go with the 2.3 ford turbo, however what i didnt know, is that in 1987, ford changed to the IHI turbo, from the T3 they used in previous years, so anyways, i now have a IHI turbo from a 88 t-bird turbo coupe, and the flange is different than the T3. it is the same rectangular shape, so it will bolt up, just the port isnt rectangle like the T3, its square on the bottom, and rounds off towards the top. WILL this still work? the turbo seems to look the same as the T3 off of the t-bird, but im not sure and was hoping someone might know... Any input right now is appreciated!!!
thanks,
Jesse

That's the same turbo that I have. I'm going to be installing it during my summer break(if you really call the one weak between fall semester and summer semester a break). It will bolt up fine to the t-3 manifold. Use a t-3 gasket, not an IHI gasket. It should seal fine. These are the best and easies turbos to use for a custom set up. The only thing you have to alter is the compressor housing, but all you have to do is rotate it 180* and once it's rotated the wastegate bolts right back up.

Sweet... because i already have the t3 manifold and gasket kit... thats good to hear it will seal fine. i wasnt sure if it would resrict at all, kindas thought it would, but i havent gotten it all yet, so i couldnt compare yet. thanks for your input!! i almost had a heart attack before work today when i got the turbo and realized it wasnt a T3.
thanks!!! :thumbsup
