45985, anyone have the apexi TT instructions?
Posted by 97eclipseRS, Apr-01-03 12:26 PM
i guess i could get them through apexi, but i was just wondering if anyone had them, on a website somewhere, or if maybe someone could scan 'em and send them to me. tia.

I dont have the apexi, but what did you need to know?

well i have a used one, but no install instructions. i have the harnesses and everything, but i'd like to see the instructions in order to install it.

if you have the harness all you do is plug that into the ignition. Its super simple. then run a ground wire, O2 signal wire (pin 30 ecu) , and a wire to the parking brake switch. I had to rewire my wireing harness for some reason it was wrong. It was for the right car tho. If you install it and your heat/ac dont work you have the same problem as I did. bust out the fluke meter. here is a link to the instructions, this is the same as the printed ones i got when i purchased mine from ramchargers.

BTW, i am assuming you have the newer one that is really small and connects to a little control relay. :thumbsup

that's the one! thanks a lot man. one question though. where is the ignition harness? there are a couple under the dash, and 1 or 2 are connected to my alarm "brain" . it's a viper alarm. not sure if these are the ones. if they are should i just install this in between? i gotta go take a look again.

i'm guessing the harness is wired correctly b/c it was installed on another 2gnt.

It should be pretty easy to figure out, I believe it's the harness that is directly the cilinder that the key goes into. It should be right there on the steering colum. Is that where your brain is mounted?

i'm gonna have to check.. the brain is mounted on the leftmost side under that panel that covers the underdash. it has 2 harnesses in it if i remember correctly. it wasn't installed by me so i don't know what the harnesses are from. are alarms(particularly viper) usually connected to the harness used by the TT? like i said, i've gotta go look again.

if they added a starter kill then ya it's gonna be wired to the ignition. there should be an external relay hooked up the alarm. it kinda depends where they put the relay to. they're supposed to make it hard to find. it looks just like your typical bosch relay. this is what's used the interrupt the ignition when the alarm is armed. i'm pretty sure that's the only part your alarm would share with your TT. also you may want to check into how you're going to be integrating your alarm and TT. check the thread in the alarms section. if you've got a shock sensor additional wiring may be required in order to delay the activation of this sensor until the TT has allowed the car to shut down. prolly just need one relay to interrupt the signal to the alarm brain. i'm not sure what you'd hafta do as far as the starter kill stuff. i think you just interrupt the signal sent to the starter kill like you do with the shock sensor.

*edit*
actually i think you need to interrupt the ignition wire. b/c otherwise your alarm seses that the car's running. use a relay to interrupt the signal for as long as the TT is running. i think maybe you don't need to do anything w/ the starter kill b/c the TT just sends current to the ignition wire. so yea, just interrupt the ignition wire and the shock sensor and you should be good...

I have a similar problem.. If I take the key out and the TT kicks in, then get out and lock the door and leave the car will unlock my doors because it thinks I just shut the car off. I have been looking all over for info on this. Anyone have any ideas? Not to snag the post i just figured we got the TT people on this one. }(

Ok for the TT all you have to go is plug it into the ignition harness whitch resides under the bottom steering wheel cover directly behind the ignition switch (where you stick the key). Just disconnect that harness and plug the TT harness between the 2 you just unpluged. Then your harness is pluged in. As for the door locks guy, if you have an aftermarket alarm that is a feature of said alarm, all you have to do is have the shop turn that feature off, or if you can do it yourself then go ahead.

great thanks for the help. about integrating it w/ my alarm, i'm not sure i will yet. well, maybe, i'm gonna try and dive into it tonight. i also did read the thread in A/V sect. and in the future, i'll probably get an alarm w/ the TT integrated in it. thanks again for all the help

Yeah.. but i dont have an aftermarket alarm. Or at least i dont think i do. I really dont think I do. heh :+ Where is a common mounting spot for an aftermarket alarm? Ill look to see if i have one.

well, my alarm brain is mounted under the dash panel beneath the steering column, on the left side.

BTW: now that i think of it, i might try and do the relay thing to make the alarm and TT work together. can you tell me exactly what type of relays i'll need? thanks

i think i need a little bit more info on how the particular TT works exactly. like which wires it's reading from and what it's sending. do TT's just have a wire the senses when they key is turned off and another that continues to send power to the ignition?

the main thing you'd hafta do is put in a relay to interupt the ignition sensor going to the alarm. you want the alarm to 'see' that the engine is off. you can do this by using a SPDT relay. you need to cut the ignition wire that goes to the alarm. connect the two leads to pins 87a and 30 of the relay. this way as long as the relay is disengaged the alarm sees things exactly as they are. then you need to connect an output across the coil of the relay from the TT. if the TT has a + output when active, connect it to one side of the coil and ground the other. if the TT has a (-) output attach it to one side of the coil and a constant +12v source to the other. what this does is it disconnects the alarm from the ignition wire while the TT is active. essentially when you take your key out, the TT becomes active and keeps the motor running but the alarm sees that the engine was shut off. you may arm your car as you would if your engine were off. when the TT turns off (and turns off the engine) the relay will deactivate and the ignition sensor on the alarm will again function as normal. the alarm has been armed as if the engine were off so the starter kill function should still work as normal. the alarm will sense if someone attemps to start the car without disarming the alarm.

the other thing you may want to do is temporarly deactivate the shock sensor (the vibration of the engine may set it off if it is set sensitive enough). you would do this in the exact same manner as the ignition switch.

with this setup the alarm should arm as normal and allow the TT to keep the motor running. once the TT deactivates the alarm will be armed as if the TT were never used (shock sensor will be re-enabled as well as ignition sensor).

hope that helps. i hope to do this someday... once i have a turbo that is.. :(

thanks a lot man! hopefully sometime in the next couple weeks i'll be able to get this to work. i'll let you know. just lemme see if i have this correctly. i basically find a wire on the TT that is hot when the TT is in use(probably the ignition wire on the TT). i tap this and connect it to the 2 ralays that sit between the alarm/ignition and alarm/shock sensor. this way when the TT is active, the alarm/ign and alarm/shock sensor lines will be "broken". than once the TT is off, the connection it restored. correct? the only thing i'm not sure of is what wire on the TT to use that has the power needed when on and none when off.

yup that's basically what you wanna do. i'm not too sure on the wiring of the TT itself though... my guess is there's one wire that senses when the key is turned off (thus telling the TT to start umm timing). then there's probably another one that will be sending current to the ignition wire on the car to keep it running as long as the TT wants. i'm just not too sure what the wiring harness and stuff on the TT looks like. i think you can probably tap into that ouput wire that's being used to keep the car running. that should be good for running your relays. there's prolly a bunch more wires since you've got the apexi one and i think it does more than just serve as a TT.

anyone got info for the wiring on the TT?
(not the install instructions the actual wiring of the harness - like which wire on the harness reads/sends what)
