x( well we got the car running today (ner stage 2 pieced together) the car wasnt idleing right so we hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and it onl;y reads 20 psi???? when we stomp on the gas it fumbles on itself but doesnt get more than 20. no wonder the car is running funny. how do u think i can remedy the problem? i know the inline is working because it charges up and runs, how do u know what may or may not be wrong with the sfmu???? when we shut off the car the fuel pressure released imediately, no pressure on the fuel rail. we were wondering why the bov wasnt discharging so we started to track everything dwn. definately a fuel problem,. what can i do to fix this problem? with the track record that shawn has, no wonder no one is happy with their kits, mine was missing a shit load of stuff. wish u guys could come dwn and look at this. it seems that when it rains it pours. thanks for all the help that all have provided during my times of trouble. i wish this was as easy aas i thought it would be. ben

What disk are you using for the SFMU? What are your settings? Maybe the SFMU is bad... Are you sure you ran all the lines correctly?

i think it might be a vortec fmu, it came with the ner kit, like the star, it should be standard. i hooked the top port to a vaccume, side port is coming off the fuel rail and the bottom is returned to the tank. i think that is right. i hope its not bad, how could i fix that, recalibration kit???

The top port is fuel in... the bottom one is fuel out, the one on the other side is vaccum....
heres a link

scroll down about 1/4 of the way to check out the fmu... its not a eclipse application, but it explains the fmu

If it's not an SFMU, then it doesn't control base fuel pressure. If it's just an FMU, and you bypassed your stock FPR, you need to hook it back up or get a regulator for the base pressure.

the pic before yours dino is what i have, top port vacume, side is off the rail and bottom is return. i think that is right with the link??? since i bypassed the stock fpr is that why it only reads 20 psi before the fmu? so i need to get a fuel pressure regulator, what would u recomend? that isnt going to be expensive? so why doesnt the fmu keep the lines pressureized? i would think it should still do the job alittle? so since there isnt a fpr on it the fmu is okay then? dino wanna take a trip to the midwest???? :) the stock fpr is now where to be found because i was told to trash it so i will need to find one fast. where would b a good place to mount it? shouldnt the msd inline keep pressure up? this is al like a foreign to me. thanks again/ ben

Hey bro what year is your car? I know with the 95's we do disconnect the regulator, but I don't know about the later models. ? for you though, where is your FP guage source? Is it on the rail itself?

Did you run a fuel return line or not? Check your fuel filter. If youre using just the FMU id suggest upgrading to a SFMU.

That's the thing - the regular FMU isn't designed to handle base FP. It's just a rising rate unit. At full vacuum, it's wide open and you're lucky you're seeing any line pressure at all.
That's your problem. You don't have any sort of fuel pressure regulator to control the base fuel pressure. Since you threw away the stock regulator, you need to put your FMU on Ebay and buy an SFMU to replace it with, so you can actually control the base pressure.

i have a 97.. thanks for the advice. i did find out that the shop that it is at didnt throw away the stock fpr. does anyone have a diagram fo how the fmu should be hooked up in relation with the stock fpr? also where the inline should be in all this to just double check it out. or just explain it would be nice. the filter and fpr is in the back on the pass side. i think i am going to try to use this for now just to get it runnin then upgrade later. thanks for the help. so once i hook up the stocker it should be fine. is that why it isnt holding any pressure when the key is off? thanks all. ben

It should go, from start to finish, like : fuel pump -> inline -> fuel rail -> FMU -> fpr -> gas tank.
It sounds like you're wondering where the inline should be installed. It should be installed between the main fuel pump and the fuel rail. On the HRC kits it's installed under the car closer to the tank.
EDIT: The FMU is not a fuel pressure regulator, it is just a riser. The SFMU is a different story - it is a regulator and a riser all in one. But yeah, if you don't use a fuel pressure regulator with the FMU then the fuel system will not hold any pressure when you turn the pumps off.
