I know a lot of you are running custom turbo setups but for those of you that are interested in going turbo but dont want to spend an arm and a leg please read. My friend has a newer issue of Honda tuning where they used a stock T-25, stock intercooler from a 2G, 1G BOV and the stock HF CRX manifold to create their own turbo kit. Obiovusly there is a lot of custom piping and welding but it ended up only costing between $300-$500 and they got a 75 WHP gain from only 6-7psi! The little CRX put down 175 WHP which is crazy for such a light car that starts off at only 100 WHP. These #'s might not be the same as it would be on our cars but I bet w/ a simliar setup, fuel mods, and a little more boost we could put out 175-200 WHP. This would be a great idea for you guys w/ 4G63 friends that upgraded to a larger turbo or if you go to the junkyard a lot. Thats pretty sweet for $500. I was surprised you could get a 75 WHP gain outta such a small turbo at such low boost but I guess the higher compression would help those #'s a little. For those of you that are interested look in "Honda Tuning" magazine. I think it says something about a custom turbo kit on the front.

Im making a custom turbo kit right now, and I dont really agree that it will cost 500$ to make one. Between the price of the Manifold, Downpipe, Turbo, and SMIC, its going to already be over 500$. Add in the SFMU, the fuel pump, and all the lines, and youre looking more at about 1000$. However, this is still a large savings over a Hahn or Star kit, which costs upwards of 3000$.

But about the small cars, yes they do make tons of power. My friend has a turbo 89 mirage hatchback with a 16G and a FMIC, its putting out somewhere near 250-270hp at the crank. I nearly killed myself when I drove it, scared the shit out of me.

Someone just needs to use the stock manifold and get an adapter plate so it will bolt up to a turbo. I'm sure it won't flow as well as the pre made turbo manifolds but it will do the job if your on somewhat of a budget. Of course if your on a budget, you shouldn't be trying to make a lot of power cause your gonna break things and spend more money.

I am also making a custom turbo kit, and with 3" exhaust i will be spending about 1,350 an thats with all high end stuff... no cutting corners, other than finding stuff cheap.

i did have a couple of Huge hookups like exhaust and I.C Piping and some others from Beyond Redline, which is a local DSM shop which is installing this turbo setup. I have previos engagements with them that makes some of it that low, but still you get the picture... i will be posting video of the install, pics of everything, and final costs, and everything when its installed. the cost to get it running will be about 1350, and when its completely done to my standards it will be around 1800.00 complete. i know 1800 is about stage 1 star, but this setup will blow star stage 1 away for the price,plus with exhaust and other stuff that kit doesnt include. so its well worth it. im sure you can cut more corners on cheaper gauges, and other brand names, but this is an exaple of what i wanted.
