Somebody on here said before that our stock clutch is supposed to be pretty strong. I'm running 5psi on my stock clutch with 66k on it.

I've had my car for 6 months and have had no problems at all with my clutch and 8psi of boost.

Stock clutch here for 35k miles @ 7-8 psi (58k miles total).

I had no slipping issues with mine running 9 psi, with 84,000 miles on it. From what i have gatherd, the stock clutch will hold 9-10 or so psi for quite some time, assuming good condition and miles. I know when guys start running 13-15 psi, the stock clutch didnt last very long at all.

I also have no problems with my stock clutch although I haven't been boosting quite as long as some other guys.
Miles on car (original clutch): 48,000 miles Boosted Miles @ 8 psi: 3,000 miles
This is just my opinion but I would believe launching the car from a stop either at a stop light or a drag strip is what kills your stock clutch. Boosting once you are moving doesn't put as much wear on the clutch.
Hope this helps, Kurt

no idea how old my clutch is... it can't be from the factory, that's impossible. i bet it was changed somewhere between 60k and 80k miles.
hmmm... turbo kit around 127k miles, 6 psi for about 5000 miles... forged internals around 132k miles, 12 psi for about 3000 miles... and it still hasn't given up yet.
sorry to hijack the thread, but what is this deal with "modular" and "non-modular" clutches? if i have a 97, that means it's "modular", right? i heard that means that i can't just get a new clutch, i need to get a new flywheel too. sounds expensive... but why? when i did the shortblock installation i couldn't figure out why i'd need a new flywheel. it looks like a new clutch/pressure plate assembly could just bolt right back up to it.

modular is when the clutch disk, pressure plate and flywheel are all riveted together in one piece...its far easier to install but once it goes you have to replace everything..if it was non modular you'd be like the 4g63 guys and you could replace the pressure plate, disk or flywheel-whenever you want...

Ok here goes :)
From what i have heard, *some* 95's came with a non modular clutch. I have yet to find one that has a non modular. Most are modular. MODULAR- This means that the flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate is one whole assembly, all rivited together. The flywheel used on our setup uses NO starter teeth on the flywheel, as we have a separate "flexplate" that bolts to the crank/flywheel with starter teeth on it.
NON MODULAR- The most popular type of clutch for "other" cars. This type of clutch has the flywheel bolted to the pressure plate, giving you access to take apart and replace the clutch disk, and resurface the flywheel, ect.. These flywheels have the starter teeth on them.
Matt_95tgs has a non modular SPEC clutch, BUT that flywheel doesnt use any starter teeth on it, just like the stock modular unit. That clutch is specially made for our cars, but still retains the benifits of a non modular clutch, but you still use the stock flexplate. I'm sure there may be other brands like this, but i dont know of any now except SPEC. Hope this makes sense.

Matt is right except for the part about SPEC making the flywheel. The flywheel is a fidanza and the spec is a non modular clutch. Currently, I got a custom clutch builder working on converting our modular clutches to non-modular units. This will allow us to use all of the stock components other than the disk itself which can be purchased for around 100 bux. I'll know what's up with this for sure in the next few days. When I know for sure, I make a seperate post about it (hopefully with pictures).

alright, so since my flywheel definately had starter teeth on it

so that means that i have a non-modular assembly? cool. i originally thought that i had the modular assembly because i've seen a lot of threads where people have the modular assembly. i guess that means when my clutch finally goes, it won't cost me an arm and a leg to replace it?

my stock clutch was still fine at 122,000 miles after about 10 bottles of nitrous had been sprayed through it.

NER, you have a modular setup. That plate with the starter teeth is the flexplate, not the flywheel. The flywheel is the piece that bolts to the flexplate. The flywheel and the pressure plate are rivited together. In this pic, you see the pressure plate, then flip the clutch around, then that is the flywheel. As you can see, there are NO bolts holding that clutch together. That's a modular clutch.

In this pic, that is your flexplate with starter teeth on it. On modular clutches, you will not have this flexplate. The starter teeth will be on the flywheel itself.

oh... i get it. wow. i didn't notice that the whole thing was one unit. i also thought that the thing that bolts directly to the crank was the flywheel. crazy.
