45292, question on compression, fuel, and nitrous
Posted by vegasdsmr, Mar-23-03 11:59 AM
the debate carries on as to what my future plans are...

i am trying to figure out first, what fuel pump, if any, will be required if i run 10.5 compression.. .this will be with an agressive cam, serious head work, and as much air as possible(p/p mani, big t/b, maybe quad t/bs...)..

to top that question off, i am also wondering about injectors with that setup... shoudl i use 3xx/4xx injectors or stick w/stock...

if i do go the route of higher comp, head work, and cams, i will definately want to squeeze a phat shot of nawz...

i would like to know what is the max shot for 10.5 compression.. i have done some research, and it basically boils down to fuel and internals (the amount and strength respectively)...

any links/responses/sugetions are appreciated..

TIA

if all else fails, i will go turbo..

Walbro intank 255 LPH will be fine.

I would use 440's if you plan on nitrous just to be on the safe side.

10.5:1 on eagle rods should handle a 150 shot Direct port without any problems. You could probably even go with a 200 shot if you set it up with a progressive controller.

I should be able to give you definite answers in about 2 weeks. I am doing every thing you are talking about except the major head work. I am running 10.5 comp., eagle rods, crane #16s, SS valves, crane springs, lifter and rocker upgrade, and a 200 shot DP kit. I am going with walbro 255, and staying with stock injectors. You are also going retard the timing. I will post when i get my car back, I can hopefully better answer your questions.

^^^ Holy Crap man, good luck with that. I think you might be pushing those stock injectors a bit though. }(

jessie, right on bro.. hit me on email, seangordon@hotmail.com

i hope you will be runnin a wet shot w/the direct port... i did find out that direct port can sometimes be less effective because there is less time for the nitrous to vaporize before entering the cylinder... if i go w/direct port, i am gunna tap the bottom firewall side of the intake manifold, and nothing closer to the head...

i really would like to rap w/u tho on email about your setup, and things/reasons why u went certain ways/bought from this vender, and whatnot..

payce out, and thanks for the info...

and, props on da hood and rimz nikka!

You'll blow with stock injectors. At LEAST use 30lbers or 42LBers.

I agree, you will be putting 200 more horses into the engine than the stock fuel system is designed for. Please think about what you are doing.

No problem Vegas.
I am not saying that you guys are wrong about the stock injectors, but you haven't givin me any reasons why they won't work. If they can provide enough extra fuel to handle a dry 75 shot, then why wouldn't they be able to handle the extra HP from higher comp., bigger valves, and drag cams. Those upgrades will not come close to 75 extra HP. The direct port nitrous kit adds the fuel to compensate for the extra Hp that will come from the nitrous. PLEASE give me insight to why that won't work, and the quicker the better my car should be running next week.
Thanks
Jesse

yeah, as I was reading over this, I realized that you are completely correct. I'd check the fuel pressure coming off of your test port at WOT to be sure that there's plenty there, and if there is then your setup should do just fine. You'll probably have as much fuel coming in with the nitrous as you do with the injectors :).

i agree ^^^^ when you are doing a direct port setup your computer never sees the nitrous that is why direct kits are wet, they add the fuel that the computer could never compensate keeping your stock injectors for the normal engine operation, your setup should be fine. someone please correct me if i am wrong.

I have always wanted a direct port kit. But I was reading in the new SCC "Squish, Sqwash, Bang, Blow" Tech article all about nitrous. Really good article by the way....very informative.

Well, the next article with "Project Civic" they install the new NOSzel kit which is a direct port kit without the irreversibility of the old direct port kit.

Looks really cool and it elimnates the removal of the manifold along with the drilling, tapping, and all the other difficulties of the regular dp kit. Check it out.

I was going to get that kit but if you look at the 4 cylinder kit it is only good up to 125 shot. It does look like a good kit if you are planning on staying with a small shot. Here is a pic of my intake mani after i installed my kit on it last weekend.

I remember reading in a rescent Turbo magazine article about a water injection system that is a definate advantage for high boost or high nitrous amount applications. Its supposed to seriously help with detonation. Ill see if I can find info on that article or scan it.

If you are adding extra fuel with the nitrous through a fuel nozzle, then there is no need to upgrade the stock injectors. All the extra fuel needed comes from the nozzle, not the injectors. YOu will want a better fuel pump, and i'd even say a nice FPR to be safe. I'm contemplating doing some N2o in my car. 15 psi and a 75 or 100 shot sounds enticing :P

Jesse, That looks sick man. I love it. Good luck with your project and get some times up when she is ready to run.

Running cams and higher compression is going to require more fuel. I was running with cams on my car with stock compression and the computer was adding a little fuel in the higher rpms according to the STFT and LTFT on my datalogger. On nice colder nights on a long 4th gear pull the I would see .920 A/F and 1450 - 1475 on the EGTs all the way to 7200 rpm with around 10 - 15% added in the LTFT.
