45079, Is this a deal or too good to be true? Posted by EclipseRST, Mar-20-03 02:33 AM
I posted on dsmtrader.com an ad for an SMIC from a 1G or 2G Eclipse/Talon. I got a reply back from a guy saying he has both a 1G and 2G SMIC and wants $75 for each. I just emailed him back asking for some info on the condition of each. Would you guys jump on this deal? I really don't want to shell out $800 to Hahn.
Oh also, given that both are in good condition, which should I go for? The 1G or 2G? Thanks guys.

If it's $75 for both then it's a good deal. They usually sell for $25-$50 on ebay.

Nope, $75 for each.
I did have another offer for $50 and he was including piping. Maybe I can get him to lower the price if I bought it without the piping since it would be useless to me anyway.

There is a 1g smic on ebay that ends in 1 day. It looks like it's in good condition. It's $30 bucks now so it will probably end around $50. From what I hear the 1g's are better than the 2g's for us.

I got my 1G SMIC for 50$ and it was in prime shape. 75$ doesnt sound too expensive if the IC is in good shape. See if he can throw in shipping for that price.

Yes, he's paying for shipping. But, I do have yet another guy who wants $45 for a 1G and he's got pics.

I got a 1G SMIC at ebay for 60 shipped. It was in prime condition too, barely had any bent fins. We tried cleaning the inside by pouring mineral spirits, shook it, and the liquid came out srystal clear. Needless to say, the guy wasn't kidding when he said it was clean and mint.

Alright how does this look? This is the $45 1G SMIC I was looking at.
Crap! I can't post the picture since it's in my email inbox. Anybody know how I can post it?
Or would somebody be willing to give me their email address so I could email them the pic and tell me what you think? Sorry guys.

From the picture you can only really tell the outer condition. Just look to see that it doesn't have a lot of bent fins. Sometimes you can straighten them with a screwdriver, but sometimes they break when you try to straighten them. Make sure it's not banged up. Look to see if there is carbon buildup on the pipes, because if it's on the pipes it's also in the core. Ask the guy if it's been pressure tested; that's the most important thing.

I didn't really see carbon buildup in the picture but he said there is small carbon deposits but isn't that normal?

A small amount should probably be normal. If you cant see any in the pictures, then its probably good.

Ok here's the pic. The red stuff on the intercooler he says is overspray from the factory car paint.
EDIT: Forget it I give up.
