i'v seen that some of you have your exaust manifold and exaust side of the turbo painted or powdercoated with a high temp poweder... what did you guys use and where did you get it from or where did you get it done.... i want to do this before i install the turbo... this is what is holding me up right now...... i want to start this project before the major shows start to get going in my area... they are starting already but the majority of them don't start till end of april beg of may.... so any help you guys can give me will be much appreciated.........

also i remember dino stating something about BBQ paint.... where can this be bought and how good is it.... figured if all else fails use that and then some hightemp on top of that........

I had mine done, HPC coating from a company called Airborne Coatings. They have a website, http://www.airborncoatings.com/. If you deal direct you can get most things done between $45-$99 depending on size. I am not sure about the other paints. But remember these parts get extremely hot day in day out so the better the process the longer they will last. Here is a latest pic of my stuff.

Get em ceramic coated, only thing that will hold up for long time and have a show-quality look.

If you want to stay on the cheap-side, you can get spray on copper gasket stuff from most auto parts stores. It goes on copper, but after a couple heat cycles it will return to a grey/charcoal color (basically keeps ur manifold/exhuast housing looking like it did the day u put it on).

for a car thats going to be shown, definitely go with the ceramic coating tho. Looks good and will actually help on the performance-side w/ its heat retension properties.


oh, and the bbq paint wont hold up. will look ok vor a VERY short period of time. Most BBQ paints are meant for temps ~400-500*. Your manifold and exhuast housing will see double and even triple that

powder coating will liquidize at 400* will NOT work for exhuast...


now u can use spray paint HItemp stuff it WILL crack off eventually,
BBQ paint is essentially this stuff slightly different maybe better..

copper gasket spray goes on copper colored once it is heated up turns a consistant black color (what i use on our manifolds to fight rust)

then theres the cool stuff, Cermic coating looks like chrome but doesn't chip or peel off and stay looking nice forever...
expensive 75$ -300$

i painted the exhaust side of my s16g and my exhaust manifold with 1200 degree exhaust paint. i knew it would probably burn off, and most of it has. however, it has left behind some type dull black layer, which i don't mind. maybe next time i do a major upgrade that requires taking the exhaust manifold and the turbo off i'll get it ceramic coated or something so it doesn't look ameature.
