45021, Engine code 51: too lean
Posted by PiKapp504, Mar-19-03 02:23 AM
I don't see why I'm geting this code. My a/f #'s are right on the money. I've got a Stage 2 and in 3rd, my a/f #'s are like .96-.98 and my EGT's are like 1500-1525 @ redline. Why am I getting a CEL 51? I've got 5 other codes, but I know what's throwing those. Any ideas?

If you are on the stock injectors, it may be locking on you. I do not trust stock injectors. People have too many problems when they run them. Even when the AF and egt are within limits, they run lean and get predetonation for no reason. This leads me to believe that at higher pressures(open loop) they do not perform.

If you upgrade to aftermarket ones, my bet is that you will never have this problem again if you stay at the above egt/AF.

These are just my opinions from the hundreds of posts that I have read over the years. What is $120(4 injectors) for peace of mind and no lean codes?

If you're getting codes regarding leanness, it's more than likely that it's referring to leanness while closed loop, or non boosted conditions.

You may want to give your fuel pressure a look under idle, and see if a bump up isn't in order. Check your fuel trims at idle. They may be trying to compensate more than they can. Either that or your O2 sensor is whack.

I agree with Jason here. The only times I have ever seen a lean code from our computers is in closed loop mode. Ususally in this case, the code is thrown when either the long term fuel trim or the short term fuel trim is maxed out. You probably need to increase your fuel pressure some at idle.

$120(4) injectors? Shoot, I just scored 4 30lb. injectors off Ebay for, get this, $56 shipped! Tell me that's not cool! I just gotta install them, get a Fuel Pressure Gauge and retune and I'll be good to go!
