44781, Would Stock Internals + HRC Stage 2 survive a 7 hour drive?
Posted by MantraXR, Mar-14-03 06:18 PM
Whats up guys, im planning on boosting within a few months, but after all of my research, I got to thinking. Would my engine make it from the Bay Area to LA (about 400 miles or 7 hours of constant driving) without blowing? Im leaving for school in August and taking my car with me, so the kit will hopfully be on for about a month and a half. Im looking at running an HRC stage2 with FMIC, Vortech SFMU, New plugs, wires, guages,... all the necessities to boost safely on stock internals. So should i be ok? Or would it be better to turn the boost down for the drive? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

I see no reason why not. To be on the safe side just turn down the boost. If you have gauges keep good reads of them. I have a similar 7 hour trip this summer so that's what I am doing. People drive thiers daily, in traffic, etc, for years some with no motor problems. So in reason, there should be no problem...Just don't race the entire way there...:D

That was my thought, I just wanted to make sure because if somthing were to go wrong on the way, the tow bill would be outrageous :P Thanks for the input :D

if you install everything correct and dont go boosting 9psi from south to north you should be cool. its not like the turbo is killing your engine if your not boosting etc etc. so far my little beast is cool at 12psi and some spikes to 14-15psi, not to say you should try this? hehe

You could stay outta boost for a 14hour trip if you wanted to...just dont push the gas down too far. you will be absolutely fine.

I'm in the san bernardino/riverside area. there is always a so cal meet being planned sometime - check out the announcement section regularly. a couple weeks ago we met in La Habra, then the group went go cart racing in Anaheim - check out our pics in the pits section.

oh, and this summer, there are quarters at the cali speedway in fontana. show up we need more 420a's there!

It should be no prob man. Take it from me. I make runs to fresno regularly ( my girls there). So over a year going 2-4 times a month non stop. Just change the oil before you leave and when you get here. Oh , btw im in so cali too. so its amost a 300 mi trip. and i still get there w/ 1/2 a tank . Just dont boost it for too long of a run. Heheh , I even have fun on the way there. who can resist handing a 2002 gts eclipse its ass? :thumbsup
