44506, Wastegate not working properly. Help needed. Posted by mkerley, Mar-09-03 04:02 PM
I plugged up my compressor side signal hole on my turbo. I used a line from the manifold for the wastegate signal. Now, when I boost, the wastegate never seems to open. I have not changed the spring setting on the wastegate (it's a deltagate BTW). I've run it up to 15psi and the wastegate will not open. The signal line does work. It does have a vacuum when I leave the engine running and disconnect the line.
I don't mind the extra boost:P , but I'm not looking forward to the engine blowing on me. Any ideas why it would do this? I can reconnect it back the way it was, but it shouldn't do this. Any ideas?
Matt

your lines are crossed some how recheck the lines coming from your boost controller

There is no boost controller. It goes straight from the manifold to the wastegate.
I have now backed the set screw all the way out of the wastegate (it's sitting in my cupholder) and the wastegate still never opens. The line to the wastegate is on the same T as the line to my boost gauge, so it should be getting a signal b/c my boost gauge reads it...?

So put it back the other way.

I can and probably will put it back, but I don't understand why it does this. It was a cheap way to up the boost a few pounds until I get a boost controller.

was that vaccum line tapped directly into the intake manifold? or did you split it off someo other line? if not tapped directly in, you problem could be a weak boost signal, and there fore the westgate does not open. you should not have to mess with the screw on the westgate.

Yes it is T'd off of another line. Maybe it is a weak signal. I'll just have to give up on this for now I guess.

Figured it out for anyone who cares. I ran the line on top of the strut tower bar to keep it away from the engine. That was my problem. The strut tower bar is so close to the hodd that the hood actually pinches the line off when you close it. So, when I had the hood open and tested the line, it was OK.
Guess the strut tower bars don't leave much room for clearance. Live and learn.
