44211, In regards to safety Posted by Stan2gnt, Mar-09-01 02:13 PM
Let me put it this way to all who want to add nitrous/turbo or whatever and are concerned about safety:
Anytime you add damn near 50% or more hp to a stock engine (or built for that matter) you are increasing the risk of something happening. Sure most likely if installed and used properly nothing will happen 90% of the time but like anything man made all engines aren't built exactly a like and there may be a few with bad tolerances/wear or whatever that causes a early demise or what have you. There are people with $10k built engines that blow up 2 weeks after in the car and stock engines that have run for yrs on 75hp of nitrous or turbo power. If you cant aceept the fact that sometimes for whatever reason (your fault or not) "sh*t just happens" dont bother with nitrous/turbo or any form of forced induction. We using nitrous, those using selling turbos can only tell you our experiences about how safe sh*t is but non of us are going to buy you new engine if something happens. With that said if you want to run with the big boys you MAY have to pay the price. You may not. Thats my take on safety in regards to nitrous or any other power adder for that matter.

Just to have an idea what are examples of using nitrous properly and misusing it?

Misuse: Activating below 2500rpm, powershifting, excessive repeated back to back runs (ex. on a long street with a bunch of stop lights and you race your friend at 8 consecative stop lights with no cool down). Proper use: everything else

LAST EDITED ON 14-Mar-01 AT 00:58 AM (PST)Back to back runs...... Hmm sounds familiar. I'll second you on that ..something about excessive blow-by and smoked piston rings... Of course I *only* did 19 passes...(turbo, not NOS, but you catch my drift)...
Just surfing by, and thought that I should second that pretty good comment by Stan..
