43775, Thinkin' of gettin nitrous, need suggestions/help Posted by alexries, Jun-27-01 07:32 PM
Ok, I know NOTHING about NOS.
1. I want as much power as is SAFE to run on a 420A (STOCK INTERNALS). What kit will provide this power? 2. If there is a "kit/setup", what kit/setup should I get? 3. What's wet and dry? 4. What is the best BRAND to get? 5. Is this an install I can do myself? 6. I've got a AEM CAI and Greddy Evo as my only performance mods, what else do I NEED if anything? 7. I can run on a stock clutch right?
Any other thing I should know, please inform me.
And lastly, please don't beat me, I'm sure some of these questions have been answered in the past but I need personal attention :P

I know it's illegal to use NOS on the street, but is it illegal to have installed on my car, and drive that car on the street. What I mean is, if a cop pulls me over for changing lanes without a signal for example, and sees a bottle in my trunk can he ticket me or something?

LAST EDITED ON 28-Jun-01 AT 05:22 AM (PST)I'll try to answer all your questions. BTW how would a cop see your bottle in you trunk unless you gave him a reason to search your car :) If you don't have a cargo cover, get one :)
>1. I want as much power >as is SAFE to run >on a 420A (STOCK INTERNALS).
75 shot wet for 96+ > What kit will provide >this power?
Most come with 50 shot jets you can get higher jets pretty cheap.
>2. If there is a "kit/setup", >what kit/setup should I get?
There are various kits, easier this way as they come with most everything you will need for the install. For your year of car you must use a wet kit. > >3. What's wet and dry?
A wet kit sprays nitrous and fuel at the same time into the intake, dry only sprays nitrous and gets the extra fuel by raising fuel pressure at the regulator.
>4. What is the best BRAND >to get?
The best brands, in my opinion is NX, NOS or Zex (zex is dry only)
>5. Is this an install I >can do myself?
If you don't know a whole lot about your car I wouldn't.
>6. I've got a AEM CAI >and Greddy Evo as my >only performance mods, what else >do I NEED if anything?
You will have to drill a hole in your AEM, you really don't NEED anything but I recomend a set of one range colder spark plugs.
>7. I can run on a >stock clutch right?
Yes
Don't engage it below 3000 rpm, get a book on nitrous, (a good one is "How to install and use Nitrous") probably one of the best investments you could make.

Ok, how hard is the install, what is involved? What tools are needed? I do have a cargo cover, I guess that will work. Can I manually engage the NOS like in F&F movie, or is it engaged at WOT. If it's engaged at WOT, then how can I possibly keep it from engaging before 3000RPM? What would happen if it's engaged before 3000RPM?

The install is pretty straight forward with the instructions.
> Can I manually engage >the NOS like in F&F >movie,
I'm sure someone makes a switch to do this.
>or is it engaged >at WOT. If it's >engaged at WOT, then how >can I possibly keep it >from engaging before 3000RPM?
With your foot, if you plan on using the nitrous make sure you don't floor it til after 3000 rpm.
>What would happen if it's >engaged before 3000RPM?
You CAN blow your intake manifold off the car, in extreme conditions.

Just keep the main power switch off until you get past 3000 rpm. Once you get past it hit the switch on.
