43595, New to NOS Posted by lgeo120, Oct-21-01 05:02 PM
LAST EDITED ON 21-Oct-01 AT 10:20 PM (PST)I was thinking of getting a NOS kit. I just wanna run between a 40-50 shot. When you install the kit and everything, do you just press the button and it works for a certain amount of time? Or do I hold the button down as long as I want, let's say about 5 or 6 seconds? One more thing, I live in Cali, so you guys now about the bitch ass CARB. Before I get smogged, do I just take the bottle out? Or do I have to uninstall the whole damn thing again? Is it hard to do? Thanks!

The way Nos works in our cars is easy. You can't use it in first gear. You can only use it at Wide Open Throttle. You can't use it under 3000 rpms, and you can't use it past the 7000 rpm redline.
There are ways of setting up the kit to have a button to fire it but the easiest way it the Throttle switch. There is a power switch to turn the system on and then there is a switch that goes on the throttle body. When the gas is pressed all the way down the switch is pressed which activates the Nitrous and Fuel solenoids and they release fuel and nitrous in to the intake pipe. Pretty simple process. I would start with a 50 shot and go up to a 75 shot at the track. I plan on using 100 shot on race gas at the track with a 12.4:1 compression.

actually you can use NOS in first gear. you to be safe launch around 3k if you go a little under dont panic youll be fine i have even sprayed as low as 2k but thats pointless 3k is safe.you can have it hooked up to operate at WOT or you can have it on a button ,its your choice.

Well you CAN do what ever you want but it's usually safer not to use NOS in 1st gear on a street car. If you have engines to spare, spray all you want.

You can use that high compression with nitrous? I understood it wasn't a good thing to do.

LAST EDITED ON 22-Oct-01 AT 09:19 PM (PST) You can use high compression with Nos. There are pro stock V8's running higher compression than that with MUCH higher shots than that. You just HAVE to have enough fuel and retard the timing enough.
Like I said I only plan on spraying when I have race gas in the car with that high of a compression.
