I want to go nitrous, but theres one problem,I don't know shit about it.I take to much pride in my ride to screw it up,so I'm asking for yall's advice. The first thing I would like to know is what is a safe shot to put on my car(all stock internals)?Should I upgrade my fuel system for nitrous? What precations should I take when using nitrous?

LAST EDITED ON 21-Oct-01 AT 01:06 AM (PST) There are guys running a 75 shot on stock internals using 93 octane gas. Thats about the maximum. To run a higher shot you would need timing retarded and maybe even forged pistons and rods.

Other precautions.. Make sure your car is in perfect running order. Check out your fuel system, if your fuel filter hasn't been changed you might want to do that. Also use one range colder spark plugs. Stay away from redline and don't use it under 3000 RPM. :)

Well I have decided to go nitrous,I will probly by my kit in a couple of weeks.I'm going to go with nos because I'm a parts dealer and we dont have an acount with nx,wich really sux, because from what I've read about the two kits nx puts out more power.Well I have a couple more questions, firs would it help to get an aftermarket fuel pump with a 60 shot?also does it help alot to run octane boosters when running nitrous? Is an a/f gaudge important.Man somebody just give me the low down on nitrous, because I have so manny questions it's not even funny. Thanks for the help guys!!!!

There are guys running a 75shot on stock internals with no fuel problems. You don't HAVE to but it won't hurt anything to do this.
>also does it >help alot to run octane >boosters when running nitrous?
The higher the octane, the more RESISTANT it is to detonation. Again, you don't HAVE to but you can.

You need to start out with at least 2 gauges to keep an eye on the engine. The A/F voltage meter and an EGT. The A/F needs to be a voltage reading for accuacy. The gauges that have blinky lights are NOT accuate at all. The Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) is going let you know if the engine exhaust temperature is starting to go up around the temp that pistons and valves can melt. You may also want to get a Fuel Pressure gauge, If you are spraying and the fuel pressure gets low, you can run lean very quickly and thats the end of the engine.

I'm running an 80 shot wet kit on an all stock motor. I use high octane gas and one range colder plugs. Be careful with octane booster. Some brands are not compatible with nitrous and will cause detonation. I haven't had any problems with this setup. I only run it on the weekends and maybe only twice a night. You may need to take other precautions if you use it more often than that. I have an A/F Guage and a nitrous pressure guage. I'm going to get an EGT guage soon.

Hey guys I really aprciate all the help.I have a couple more questions for yall.Who makes an a/f voltage meter, and how much do thay usually run?I've never heard of one(evry body always orders the blinky light)? Also about what 1/4 mile times should I get with a 60 shot, the only mods I have is cold air intake, cat back exhaust, and a header, and next week I'm getting my intake manifold ported and polished and my tb bored, and I have a five spd?Would it be safer on my engine to get an aftermarket fuel pump?If so what should I go with. Thanks again guys.
